- @climberkurt casually negotiating a chossy, 20ft runout above an ancient bolt in volcanic ash. Routes like Shake and Bake (10a+) have given The Pinnacles their rep as a chossy pile with nothing but dangerous routes. That's ridiculous, of course. The Pinnacles has plenty of solid, well-protected routes, mixed in with the scary ones. Shake and Bake is for sure one of the scary ones, with well-spaced bolts that are hard to spot, hidden as they are behind cobbles, and plenty of crusty rock that does sometimes break. The good news (or bad news if you like scaring yourself) is that that the rock gets cleaner with each ascent, and the bolts occasionally get updated... in another 20 years this one might not be so bad. #shakeandbake #shakenbake #pinnaclesnationalpark #scary #climbingphotography #californiaadventure #climber #rockclimbing

- I like to feature all the crazy shapes and patterns I see in rock climbs. And even though it's kind of my signature style, it's really just been a lifelong attempt to mimic the master and godfather of rock climbing photography, Greg Epperson. Greg isn't on Instagram, which is a shame, because his photography, along with @bill.hatcher Brian Bailey, Heinz Zak, and Beth Wald is really where climbing photography came into the future. I say future because that group was so far ahead of its time. Some of their photos were so groundbreaking that I'd argue climbing photography hasn't really progressed much since. #pioneers #oldschool #climbingphotography #climbing #nature #patternsinnature #stonemountainsbook

- @hannahmichelled_ on the Pothole Problem, a sweet V8 @jwebxl addition to the bouldering at Cosumnes River. Here is an interesting tidbit about the river (from ca.gov) "The Cosumnes River is the only unregulated river on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada. Because it remains undammed, it experiences the seasonal overbank flooding that was once a common feature of rivers in California's central valley. This flooding supports the natural growth of riparian and floodplain vegetation, which in turn serves as home to an astounding array of wildlife. More than 250 bird species, over 40 fish species, and approximately 230 plant species have been identified on the approximately 4,700 acre reserve. These include various species of Egrets and Herons, Sandhill Cranes, Stilts and Avocets, Phoebes and Flycatchers, and Yellow and Wilsonโ€™s Warblers". #rockandice #cosumnes #bouldering #bouldering_pictures_of_instagram
