- Stopping over in Bangkok one more time before heading out of SE Asia I had to find a place to stay. I had to splash out for an AC room. It smelled god awful; I wish I could describe it. But I was just looking to move on and the $5 non AC rooms on Kho San really wasn’t what I was looking for. Still I had to spruce it up a touch and my Niece’s beautiful drawing I’d been carrying with me over the past few months really made this a bit more like home. It was time to wrap this up.

- In another surprise, again seemingly from another land from another world; Vietnam surprised me with Nimbinh. Often called the famed Ha Long Bay on land it is a mystical area filled with caverns, caves, underground waterways rivers and streams weaving through the hearts of towering limestone mountains. It was made more famous recently as the chosen location for filming the movie "Kong : Skull Island”. If you’ve seen it, you will recognize it. You really feel like you are in another land. I had chosen not to visit Ha Long Bay this time round and was pretty amazed by how stunning this part of the country was. Still nothing in comparison to the majesty of HL Bay, it was still an amazing adventure not to be missed. You jump in a little boat powered by the arms and legs of a tiny Vietnamese woman and she paddles you up and down the waterways; into, under, and through the mountains. Only video can attempt to do it justice as you navigate through the pitch black soul of the mountain illuminated only by your torch and you silently follow the quiet flow of the river as it finds it’s way back into the open.

- This stretch of road went viral after Top Gear featured this little bend on their hit tv show. The actors hired small motorbikes and attempted to ride the entire stretch of the Vietnam coastline from Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi. Not an easy feat. However, stops like this that frequent the journey make the adventure extremely worthwhile. You can hire out bikes in Hoi An and experience this tiny bit of the journey just as they did on the show and then drop the bike off again in Hue. I think their comments pointed out how the country is a mix of modern industry and advanced construction mixed in with old world culture and style.

- I've been in many caves around the world (and I love the idea of caves filled with treasure and expect to find one someday - aka Goonies), but I can say that the immense caving system I've experienced here beats all thus far...by a great length. These immense caves carried on for miles. Sadly the touristic crowds fouled the experience a lil...i'll still prefer the Central American caves where you explore at your own risk....and risky it was with no one round and no guide at hand
