- I pour so much love and attention to detail on every aspect of my shop. I’ll be starting a new segment on the AV blog about running an online shop, whether vintage or not as a way of sharing how I got to where I am. I don’t own a big fancy company, I’m not making it rain dollar bills, and I don’t have lofty plans of having multiple employees or being some kind of “boss bitch.” (I personally cringe at that term by the way) Anyhow, I AM doing something that gives me so much joy and fulfillment (at least a few times a week I say “omg I can’t believe this is my job!) and it’s allowed me to be my own boss for 6 years now and my business is debt free. All this to say, if you have a business related question you want to ask, send me a DM and be on the lookout for the new blog feature!

- Most of the studio is set up and I’ve been tackling my new inventory system today so I can list new items and ship items more efficiently. (Once I got a good flow I’ll share it with ya!) It always baffled me how sometimes certain things (if they’ve been in the shop for awhile) would just disappear into the Vintage abyss! This happened so often for me! Anyhow, have you gals noticed I’ve done some minor interface updates on the website? Cleaned it up a bit and changed the menu for the dress section and also updated the About Us (really more About Me, but whatevs).

- I’m working on writing articles for the shop that have really been ringing true for me lately and that’s the importance of self care and self love. After running two shops for so long I realized that the one person doing all of the work (me) was the person whose needs were almost always neglected. I’m really excited for these next few weeks as I adjust to a less harried schedule and truly feeling like I’m back to just being over the moon in love with what I get to call “my job.” p.s. The Morning Moments cardigan is seriously the softest cardigan I have ever worn! And it’s in the perfect shade of warm neutral grey! I literally wish I had a onesie made of it, haha!

- It has been a laborious week of finalizing all the details of closing up a brick & mortar, moving to the other side of town, and setting up the studio (did ya watch my time lapse videos?). But it feels nearly finished and I’m looking around at it all and just overcome with gratitude. While packing I had found one of my journals from 2011/2012 where I mainly wrote down small tangible goals for my shop and for myself, dealing with the outcome of a divorce, and figuring out “single adult” life (I got my first apartment ever!) I didn’t really have friends which is probably why I worked so much and loved social media. I wrote to-do lists that involved really mundane things because at that point it was just “ok get through today, then you can deal with tomorrow!” I never once questioned AV though or my love for selling lovely things and creating beauty. I had decided that after I saved up 10K I was going to quit my full time job and just chase the dream! And if it didn’t work out, I was going to be able to go back to my fashion job. I had a one year “make it work” plan. And so here I am, 6-7 years later... still doing pretty much the same stuff and still so thankful for the chance to do it! #atelierdeadored

- This 1920s dress in the shop is really lovely! Sometimes I wish I had more time (and money!) so I could photograph all my products on dress forms AND models because I feel that when the clothes are worn it’s sometimes easier to visualize how it will look on you. Though I do think photos on models can backfire too. As an avid online shopper myself I sometimes won’t buy things because it’s noted the model is 5’11 and a size 2 and I’m like crap she’s about a foot taller than I am and we have the same measurements. But then sometimes having a model is really helpful! Arg, I don’t know, I think there are pros and cons to both. What are your thoughts on this?

- All these beauties (some are as-is) are all packed up. The shop feels very bare bones at the moment and also cluttered because I have little piles of “sort and go through before move” everywhere. Thinking of having a temporary “Attic of Aveyron” section of the website. (Remember that, my as-is vintage Instagram account?) While I’ve been packing and sorting I’ve come across dozens and dozens of “project vintage” pieces that right now in my life I don’t have (or want to) make time for. Anyhow, just a thought. Wondering if this would interest any of you...

- The shop is 50% packed and half of our fixtures have sold. I’m looking around at what’s left for the new office and I’m well on my way to the new minimal vibe I really hope to attain and maintain. (Haha are you sort of laughing at this lofty goal of mine? I kind of laugh too!) Anyhow, these lovely new #vintageinspired dresses will be in the shop soon! I’m hoping to squeeze in some product shoots over the weekend... The first black midi dress with patch pockets and buttons along the front... Jeez Louise I’m going to live in it Spring to Fall!

- I wrote a blog post about feeling really overwhelmed right now (in my Shopkeeper Journal on the website) because of all the many moving parts regarding the brick + mortar closing, moving back to the old studio, and opening up my sister shop @chaptermercantile all in the same month. And also the buying trip in LA last week... oof! What was I thinking?! (Maybe because I’m a crazy overachiever...or have horrible concept of time...hmmm...both?) Ahhh also, do you gals like this new background color for AV? I think it feels warm and earthy but still very AV... I won’t be using it for all the product photos, but I’ve really been drawn to warmer muted tones as of late. And one more thing, I’m setting up Chapter Mercantile today @urbanitepdx so be sure to follow along on my stories!
