- The newsletter has landed! With details of my foam-free Large Installation class at @holmeflowers in September. Learn how to create large and dramatic pieces without the use of floral foam. Ill be honest, for years I actually thought the foam broke down, so I merrily added it to my compost heap only to keep finding it more or less as it was the day it was discarded. Now I know better I really try to avoid using it wherever possible, plus its potentially blummin carcinogenic 拎 (I keep imagining whales trying to eat it like the plastic on Blue Planet 2 ) So, learn how to step away from the foam and save a whale, (and yourself ) Only currently available to my mailing list, so best get yourself signed up pronto if you fancy a glorious autumn day on a flower farm, creating ridiculously big pieces like this (this is only part of the full shebang ) Link in profile xxx image @belle_andbeau

I got to use my pride and joy chrysanthemums (theres a phrase I never thought Id use) and the @meliameliaphoto images on the local moors are jaw dropping as ever 徉兩儭

- My urn for the @flowersfromthefarm annual conference in Birmingham yesterday All British, all February, all dangly 不. Well not all dangly, some just downright prickly (see rose stem centre left) there are at least 3 prickles now firmly embedded in my hands ) Just because there arent many flowers around doesnt mean you cant create a large statement piece from locally grown ingredients. This doesnt really give an idea of scale but the white background is a projector screen and it wasnt quite big enough

- If life gives you sheeps wool tangled in brambles ..... Yesterday I gave a demonstration to the fabulous @flowersfromthefarm annual conference- a room full of amazing, like-minded florists and flower growers. Ha, no pressure there then (pic in very unforgiving light to follow ) I wanted to show that, even in the depths of winter there is ALWAYS something to work with, you just need to see it! This was from the very wonderful twelfth night gathering with @creativecountryside in early January (obv!) We were in Edale with only sheep for neighbours so it made total sense to use a bramble twisted with caught sheeps wool.

- Im desperate for this whitebeam foliage to return, its so pretty and tactile, almost velvety. Ive just cut some stems to bring them in to the warmth and force them for next weeks demo for @flowersfromthefarm . I have chosen to work with ingredients that are around in Yorkshire in early February, so its safe to say there will be a fair amount of #lovelydeadcrap in there too. So, do you reckon my whitebeam will spring into leaf or will we be just looking at some beautiful bare stems .....?

- Rather scarily I am featured on the @botanicalbrouhaha podcast today. Almost an hour of me chatting to Amy and @maxitflowerdesign about all sorts. We went off on all sorts of tangents, talk about #britishflowers , people who have helped me get where I am now, both at the very start @thewillowgarden and more recently @flowerona @sarah_winward @thebrand_stylist and @andthrive and probably lots in between that I cant remember (we recorded it in early December and I havent listened since). I did listen to a small section straight after we chatted and OH. MY. GOODNESS do I giggle! How does anyone ever take me seriously . I like hearing my voice about as much as I like pictures of myself so Im feeling a bit wobbly about being out there Link in profile 儭

- BEST OF 2017 - 3 Demonstrations/collaborations I had the pleasure of being commissioned by some fabulous people last year, including Castle Howard, to play a part in their flower festival. Rather fabulously, this involved driving around the gardens and grounds in a gator with the wonderful head gardener Alastair Gunn, to pick as I chose, then once picked and carried through the maze of rooms, they were used in my demonstrations. Just to be clear, my demonstrations are not pre-planned with set ingredients and a known outcome, instead I pick flowers and foliage that I think are looking particularly gorgeous on the day, then decide which container to use once I see what I have to work with. This decision process is absolutely crucial and what really informs my style. Its often not the obvious stars I choose but more the understated, strange, unusual and often, dare I say it, ugly, but when combined with the other ingredients they all work together and sing. When demonstrating, I take the observers through my entire thought processes, its a slow and considered process, very different from the more entertainment led demonstrations perhaps some might expect. A huge thank you to the team at @castle_howard for allowing me to partake in quite possibly the nearest thing to perfection for me, such an honour to spend time with Alastair and gain an insight into behind the scenes, picking from the iconic gardens, then creating inside the magnificent house. As luck will have it I visited again to discuss some future plans ..... (see stories for some snowy pics) . Ooh and while I remember, for any members of @flowersfromthefarm I am demonstrating this process at the annual conference on Feb 5th in Birmingham so if you want an insight into my thought process and decision making process I believe there are still a few tickets left? If not there will be a few other demonstrations this year, details still to be announced. - BEST OF 2017 - 2 Weddings. I worked on some beautiful weddings last year, large bouquets, hanging chandeliers, large and beautiful installations - always, always gorgeous flowers and British wherever possible. My fabulous couples embraced my style and allowed me to bring my full, natural and unstructured style to their day and because of that some real magic happened last year. Its crucial that the couple and I are totally right for each other, that way I know that if I like what I create, they will. Because my style is so specific (cant think how else to describe it!) I just need to know that they want what I do, its not right for me or them to design wedding flowers that just dont come from my soul. Because my process is so fluid its dictated by what is around that week, in that place so I need to know that any last minute decisions on, say that flower that I KNOW would be perfect but we havent discussed, will be OK with them and not send them into meltdown! Swipe for a small soup癟on of wedding gorgeousness ( I had to google how to spell soup癟on- this was not what I suggested 不) pro images @the_hendrys @craigowilliams @meliameliaphoto - pic of me = iphone pic #britishflowers #myfloraldays #inspiredbypetals #whpmystyle #flowersofinstagram #floralinspo #weddinginspo #weddinginspiration #fineartflowers #fineartflorals #floraldesign #floraldesigner #florals #dsfloral #floralinspiration #floralarrangement #weddingflorist #weddingceremony #seasonality #underthefloralspell #hangingflorals #floralinstallation #weddingflowers #curated_nature #flowerinhand

- A brief interruption to the best of series for this, a photo I came across today during a mammoth clear out, from (I think) the late 1920s of my maternal grandparents on their wedding day. Sadly my grandfather died before I was born, but I was very close to Nana, whos name was Florence (known to all as Flo) and the business is actually named after her. This is the first time Ive ever seen a picture of their wedding day, I think its beautiful and just wanted to share it #hugebouquet #littlestoriesofmylife #myfloraldays #inspiredbypetals

- BEST OF 2017 - 1 Group Classes and Workshops I met some incredibly talented people from around the world on the classes I hosted last year. It actually blows my mind that people will hop on a plane and fly great distances to attend a class of mine, but hop they did and Im so grateful to everyone who made each class so perfect and a real lifelong memory for me. As you may have seen, I am having a bit of a brainstorm session, planning for the year ahead and rather than sit in a room on my own and convince myself what everybody wants is an Eritrean orchid propagation workshop (仄儭 不) I thought Id ask you, the ones who acually (hopefully) attend or partake. SO - please think big, in an ideal world, ignoring any obstacles or problems, what would you really like to learn, hear, read about or do? Dont hold back, just get it out there even if its just an idle musing, obviously no guarantees but I am really interested to hear your thoughts, no matter how whacky, who knows I might have had exactly the same thought!! Obviously I mean something that I can actually provide, no would love to meet Monty Don or similar Thank you xxx

- Winter. I know everything is still pretty dormant out there in the gardens, hedgerows and woodlands, but I cannot help feeling I can spot the tiny signs of life reawakening. The blue tits are eyeing up the nest box, issuing annoyed alarm calls every time I go near it (I have heard it said that they choose nest sites from as early as New Years Day) and there are definite chirupping sounds from the surrounding trees that have not been around for a while (chaffinches I think) and some of the early spring flowers are already gently unfurling. I know it goes against what most people feel about January, maybe its because I was an early January baby, but I do feel everything is positive out there and not in the slightest miserable. I can start contemplating sowing some of the gorgeous seeds I bought last autumn and I am itching to get growing again. If you saw my stories yesterday you will have seen the little highlights from a wander round the garden. (Ive saved them to a highlight if you missed them). I am having some downtime throughout January and while I lose myself in big picture plans for 2018 and spend time hunkered down under a blanket with the dogs, I thought instead of posting my best nine from last year, I am going to choose some of my favourite images from 2017 that not only show what delights i got up to last year, but also give an insight into plans for the coming year #winter #wintermood #myseasonalstory #thequietwinter #capturequiet #ourwhimsicaldays #stillswithstories #thisjoyfulmoment #littlestoriesofmylife #myeverydaymagic #simpleandstill #mybritainwithlove #daysofsmallthings #hellojanuary #embracingtheseasons #mynaturestory #gowildlyandslow #themidwintermovement #ofwhimsicalmoments #modernoutdoors #aseasonalshift #asecondofwhimsey #midwintermovement #thiswintermoment
