- Freeeeeeeee! *Random thoughts from a dog mom - I get tons of questions every day from people wanting advice. I am not a vet, dog trainer, or behavioralist. But I'd like to share a few observations based solely on my personal experience and open the comments up for everyone to discuss with each other. This way we can all maybe learn a bit from others who have been there. * Puppies are officially any dog under 2. People tend to believe a dog that looks like an adult should act like one. This is NOT TRUE. Puppies between the ages of 8 and 20 months or so are the most frequently surrendered. This is the teenage stage and just like with humans the most difficult! Please don't give up on them. Seek the advice of a trainer and stick it out. Your "perfect" dog is right around the corner. Don't trade yours in for another puppy who will eventually be a teen too. It's just not right. *Just because you like a certain breed does not mean it is a match for you or your current life situation. Spend time with lots of different dogs (volunteering at your local shelter is a great way to do this!) and see what works for you. Large breed dogs can be very strong, powerful, stubborn, and may need more exercise than you can provide. Sporting breeds need a job to be at their best. Some small dogs need more of your time than others. Educate yourself first and remember a dog is forever not just for right now. * Please don't compare your dogs to others. Mine are pretty well behaved but remember I spend nearly all day every day with them. Even then they still have their off days. The best piece of advice I can give is to wear them out first. A tired dog is a much easier to train dog. * There are low cost vet clinics. If you are worried about your pets health you can usually get a visit for under $80. Also lots of low cost or free spay and neuter programs are available these days. For male dogs with behavior issues this is a great place to start!! * Feed the best you can afford. We personally use Nutro limited ingredient lamb. Don't beat yourself up if you can't afford the high $ stuff. I've seen enough starving dogs to appreciate people just making sure their dogs don't go hungry 💯❤️

- Cora 💕 From Corazón - Spanish for heart. She has a ton of it and mine already too! The name suggestions were incredible, thank you everyone. Totally saving some of those for the future. Vet visit went great. We've got a full blood panel that we are waiting for results on but upon visual exam, aside from some minor skin issues, she seems to be in pretty good health! She is already becoming such a happy girl. She's met all the dogs, is able to run without a leash now, and is settling in. Last night we cuddled together with some of the other dogs by the fire - heaven! She is such a little miracle and is doing wonders for me as well. Her spirit, silliness, and forgiving nature is contagious. I'm in love 😍 #rescuefamily #adoptrescuefoster @nwdogproject

- Meeting Ki, meeting Moo, reconsidering wanting to meet the rooster, learning to love people. The wonderful person who initially saved and fed her for a week or so did an incredible job - thank you, she is a fatty already! 🤣 We've gotten her started with basic medical care and the more thorough workup begins this week. Since she is from Mexico, and half of my own family is as well, I'd love to give her a beautiful Spanish name. Suggestions?? #adoptrescuefoster #rescuefamily @nwdogproject

- Our girl is here! She has thankfully put on a few pounds this past week or so and looks pretty good! She will have a full vet workup this week. I can see off hand that her skin needs a little tlc and she definitely has some resource guarding going on but that is to be expected. She seems to be a very sweet and silly girl. I can't wait to let her decompress a little, get to know her better, love her like crazy, and of course share her progress with all of you! Thank you all so very much for making this possible - your support is truly everything. It is very late/early here so we will be getting some sleep - goodnight friends 💓 #adoptrescuefoster #rescuefamily @nwdogproject

- And she's at the vet then on her way to Oregon!! Thank you so much to everyone who donated towards her care. Remember @nwdogproject is a registered non-profit so your donations are tax deductible ID#47-192-9063. I am sorry to post the previous photo, I know it's hard to look at. I lose a chunk of followers each time I do but I feel it's important to share the whole journey, not just the highlights - and we will have nothing but those now! We also have to remember that for every horrible human that does these cruel things in the world there are all of us working together to help save them. Thank you from the bottom of my heart truly. I will be meeting her at transport late tomorrow night and will share with all of you when we have her! 💕💕 #adoptrescuefoster @nwdogproject

- Much better life photos to come - can't wait to love you beautiful 💕 Repost @nwdogproject - 🚨$5 Friday🚨 We got a call about this terribly neglected puppy, living in filth, tied to a post. 😩🤬 Without hesitation we agreed to help, how could we not. The amazing @roofusandkilo immediately stepped up to foster (THANK YOU Candice!!) and she will be arriving tomorrow. 🙌🏽❤️ She was pulled out of this horrific living situation a few weeks ago by a kind hearted person, and they’ve been doing the best they can to care for her, but with limited resources. She will need to be fully vetted ASAP, including a full blood panel (lots of blood born diseases from ticks in Tijuana) tested for all parasites, heart worm and whatever other medical attention she needs. Please consider making a small donation towards her care, if even just a handful of you could spare $5 today we’d have enough to cover her expenses in no time. ⭐️DONATION INFO⭐️ PayPal: donations@northwestdogproject.org (link in bio) Venmo: nwdpOR Thank you all in advance for your continued support, it’s because of YOU guys that we are able to continue to open our doors to these precious souls. Thank you. 🙏🏽❤️ And of course, updates soon to come, we know this babe is going to thrive with the @roofusandkilo gang, she’s got no idea how awesome her life is about to get! 💕💕💕

- Happy New Year everyone! Thank you all so much for spending 2017 with our misfit family and for all your constant love and support. I want you to know that although I could never have the time to respond to them all I do read every comment and as many dm's as I possibly can. I appreciate the time you take to share your stories with me, make me laugh, and feel loved and uplifted (mostly ha 🤣). Since we started all this 5 years ago or so our bio has read "Hope we can make you smile" and it is my wish still to this day. I cherish and adore this Roofus and Kilo community we have created together and look forward to another year of sharing pups, saving pups, love, hope, laughs, and a much needed escape for us all. Thank you everybody and happy new year! (There's two videos I tried but couldn't get it down to one 😆) #swipeswipeswipe #rescuefamily #adoptrescuefoster @nwdogproject

- The sun is out! We all decided to take advantage of the opportunity to soak up some vitamin D - something we definitely lack this time of year in the PNW 😩. Swipe to see everyone hanging out ➡️. So it turns out that Pearl ate some unknown thing she shouldn't have (again) and gave herself mild pancreatitis. It wasn't showing up in the blood work though so we had to do tons of other tests until the Dr finally concluded that she is just a little more sensitive to pain than other dogs. Making her not only a creep but also a drama queen 😂. She is on the mend now and I have tried once again to hide anything and everything trash, garbage, and things Dooders shouldn't eat related out of sight. We'll see if it works... #littledogproblems #happynewyear #adoptrescuefoster #rescuefamily

- A little update on the severely neglected/abused bull terrier you all helped to save. Frida, as she is now known, is living the BEST life at @nwdogproject! I got to see her the other day but unfortunately couldn't love on her this time as I didn't want to risk bringing kennel cough home to the babies here. See more amazing updates on our rescue partner page @nwdogproject and thank you from the bottom of my heart to all those who helped this rescue happen ❤️ @Regranned from @nwdogproject - #fridababe getting those evening snugs in. ☺️😊 Our little lady is still getting over some kennel cough (hit her a little harder due to her compromised immune system) but she’s on the mend. She saw the vet Tuesday and overall they were very pleased with her progress and felt like her health was headed in the right direction! 👌🏽 Her skin already looks a million times better, she’s gained weight and with some continued tlc this girl is going to be feeling like a million bucks. We will be redoing her blood work in a couple weeks after she is done with her last round of antibiotics to make sure the Anaplasma, Ehrlichia and anemia have cleared up (a massive thank you again to everyone that contributed towards her rescue and medical care! 🙏🏽💕) and then she will be able to be spayed! You know what comes after that... she’ll be ready for ADOPTION! 🤗 We’ll start taking apps in the next week or two after her kennel cough is cleared up, and we’re able to do some more evaluating with her. In the meantime, she’s loving life here, and we are thoroughly enjoying every moment of loving her. ❤️❤️❤️ #fridathebullterrier - #regrann

- And by far the most expensive one of the year... #spendallthemonies #worthit #imstillgonnaeatcrap #yourestillgonnapay #Dooderswins * Pearl is home and doing good. Still not 100% what's going on but we will have all the test results on Tuesday. At least we have ruled out most of the scary stuff so that's good. Dr. Colby and staff at @eugene.animal.hospital have been amazing and Doods loves them all! That said though we'd really love to not see you for a while 🤣. Happy Friday everyone! #rescuefamily
