- We’re all in the midst of a great story. There’s a continual narrative at work in each of our lives that’s being shaped and honed by our choices. Storytelling provides the lens through which we can see those choices more clearly. It gives us perspective and helps us make sense of our experiences. But it’s often difficult to get these stories out of our heads and onto a page, where they can be shaped, deepened, and refined. Knowing the pangs of writer’s block, we’ve put together a few techniques to help you craft that story you’ve been waiting to tell. Link in bio. #passionpassport 📷@jackiecole_

- “This video encapsulates a 4,000-kilometer journey I took through Northern India. On the first leg of the trip, we drove from Delhi to Kashmir for the Shikaras, then to Kargil to witness its history firsthand, and finally to Leh City, located high in the towering mountains. After what felt like a hundred adventures, we reached Nubra with tired bodies. From there, we ventured to Pangong to see its vibrant blue waters, explored Spiti (my favorite place in the entire world), and continued on through the Tso Moriri mountains to Hanle. It was such a wholesome experience! Every time I travel, I learn something about myself, the people around me, and the places I visit — this trip was no exception." 🎥@anunaysood 📍Leh, India 🇮🇳 #passionpassport

- "This is Mardalsfossen, a waterfall in western Norway that's also one of the largest in Europe. Even standing 200 meters away from it, I still got drenched by the mist from the water racing down into the valley. While capturing this shot, I had to battle with my drone — I had lost the transmission signal, so I had to shoot blind. Luckily the GPS was still online, so I knew that I would be able to retrieve it if anything went wrong. Hoping to shoot a different perspective of the scene, I flew higher than I’d ever gone before. Although it was nerve-wracking not being able to see anything, it was well worth the risk." 📷@skeye_photo 📍Mardalsfossen, Norway 🇳🇴 #passionpassport

- The rate at which humans have uncovered every inch of our planet can be hard to fathom. It was only a century ago that the first commercial flight left the runway, but now, it seems as though no mountain, desert, or reef is out of reach, no unidentified lizard, bear, or fish awaiting a name. What was once unthinkable is now simply doable. That means that remote destinations and the endangered animals that inhabit them — like humpback whales, rhinoceroses, and bald eagles — are more accessible than ever before. But remember: every action has a reaction. So, how has this newfound accessibility affected our planet’s wildlife and their respective ecosystems? Click the link in our bio to find out. #passionpassport 📷@devlin_gandy

- We’re sending a big congrats to our #PPBlue challenge winner @karenhuynh_, who ironically takes us to Greenland! “Slowly making our way through the Icefjord towards Eqi Glacier, one of the most active glaciers in Greenland due to the effects of climate change — it calves several times a day, resulting in the vast amount of icebergs in the area.” Head to her feed for the full write up! We’re also sending a big thank to everyone who participated in this week’s challenge and to our amazing guest judges for their help — @thediaryofanomad, @savin.photography, @spathumpa, & @karl_steinegger. Next challenge going live soon! #passionpassport

- “This past May, I had the chance to spend almost three weeks in Myanmar’s Shan State with my friend @maoutfitters, who shares my passion for using photography to positively impact communities and individuals and honor their dignity. Together, we ventured into isolated areas and hiked to villages that rarely, if ever, encounter foreign travelers. On this particular occasion, we had the fortune of stumbling upon a Palaung community, an ethnic Buddhist minority native to Shan State. Though the Palaung are only one of several indigenous groups found in the region, they are one of the few who still maintain their tribal style of dress — an alluring mix of black and brightly colored garments. As I took in the scenes of the village, I was overcome with the joy of being able to witness the pride with which this community preserves their identity. It was a reminder that despite the speed at which the world is changing, our essence remains timeless.” 📷@forasiacheers 📍Shan, Myanmar 🇲🇲 #passionpassport *Note: While Passion Passport will continue to post photos on social media and even cover Myanmar editorially, the government is allowing ethnic cleansing to occur while denying its existence. Passion Passport appreciates the beauty of Myanmar’s people and its lands, but supports U.N. resolutions to end military campaigns against Muslim Rohingya.

- “We have come tonight to hear Fado, but I am quickly beginning to understand that it’s not something you hear as much as something you feel.” Behind the intricate azulejos of Lisbon lies a voice that, once heard, is impossible to forget. Fresh off a trip to the Portuguese capital, @caroocaracol introduces us to the melody that runs deep within the streets of the city — the mouthpiece of Portugal’s soul. - "After having already shot an Icelandic sunrise and a glacier, we set off on a three-hour drive to this iconic beach, hoping to catch the sunset. Barreling down this dirt road, we were nervous we'd miss it. None of us had been to this beach before, and we had no time to scope out the location before shooting. When we arrived, we were met by a group of other photographers, so I had to try and find a unique angle of this commonly photographed place. While my time in Iceland taught me a lot about planning and waiting for shots, this particular experience reminded me of the thrill that comes with rushing to a place and sharing the view with like-minded people — and strangers." 📷@tomkahler 📍Stokksnes, Iceland 🇮🇸 #passionpassport There’s still a bit of time to post your #PPBlue challenge entries — link in bio — before noon EST today!

- “Fittingly, I was in Barsana for the Holi color festival when I took this photo. During a walk to the nearby Radha Rani Temple, I came across this old pond covered in bright-green algae. Its lines and patterns reminded me of a painting, and I couldn't help but stop and stare. I stood and watched the water for 10 or 15 minutes before this boat glided past, creating even more mysterious shapes in the vibrant surface. At that moment, I knew I had my shot.” 📷@navinvatsa 📍Barsana, India 🇮🇳 #passionpassport

- "Whenever I travel with my partner, who is also a photographer, we make sure to seek out the best views our temporary home has to offer. It is for this very reason that we knew we had to go to the top of the Piazza San Marco tower during our weekend trip to Venice last January. Although a cold, wet breeze barraged us as we arrived, climbed, and began taking photos from every possible angle, we didn’t mind. After all, we were busy capturing the rooftops and monuments of the Italian city of love. From where I stand, Venice is one of the most unique places in the world. Practicing my craft there with someone I love felt like a dream come true." 📷@silviarpetit 📍Venice, Italy 🇮🇹 #passionpassport

- "At this time of year in Greenland, the sun never sets. It just rolls along across the horizon, providing the perfect lighting for cruises through the icebergs of Disko Bay. We took out two beautiful sailboats on this expedition, which was part of a yearly photography workshop that I run. The setting almost overwhelmed my senses, between the sights and sounds of waves and whales demanding my attention. I chose to fixate on the icebergs, though, which were so still that they reminded me of sculptures. It amazed me to see them dwarf the red sailboat that we used for scale. In this moment, I was already excited to return the following year, to explore more of a place where nature so closely resembles art." 📷@danielkordan 📍Ilulissat, Greenland 🇬🇱 #passionpassport We know it’s GREENland, but make sure to check out this week’s #PPBlue challenge — link in bio!

- "My girlfriend and I had just finished photographing a sunset in nearby Banff and were looking up directions to our hotel when I noticed we were next to a river on the map. Light was fading fast, but I knew I had to take the chance to capture it. I threw my drone up from the parking lot, excited that a day already full of adventure was taking another twist. I couldn't believe my luck when I saw how this photo turned out — it opened my eyes to the fact that there are always beautiful spots hidden right under your nose, if only you find the right perspective to capture them. In the long run, it's these unexpected discoveries that will keep me going." 📷@kendallmartin 📍Outside of Banff, Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦 When’s the last time you had an unexpected discovery on your travels? - Words build worlds. They are vessels of reputation, a means of categorization, and a code of identification. They are how we distinguish difference, signpost narratives, and draw meaning from our lives. Here we ask: What is the difference between the words “immigrant” and “expatriate”? At the surface, both terms are rife with notions of difference, division, and hierarchy. But the differences between immigrant and expat aren't fundamental to how or why each move. An immigrant is one who moves from one nation to another for reasons of work, family, education, or escape. An expat does so for exactly the same reasons. So why the distinction? The difference seems to be drawn from who these individuals are, where they’re coming from, where they’re going, and how easily they travel across those borders. - When @sktarts arrived in Colombia, they heard about an old wreckage site off the coast of San Andrés. After looking up how to get to the cove where the sunken treasure lay, they set out to investigate with their drone. When they spotted what they had come to see, they began capturing the scene from above. "It felt so amazing to see something like that — live," they mused. - “I was on my way from Mount Bromo to Tumpak Sewu, a waterfall in East Java, when our driver mentioned it would be worth stopping in the nearby town of Malang to catch up on some much-needed rest. When he mentioned a certain neighborhood by the name of Jodipan, we quickly scanned the internet and realized that we had stumbled upon the perfect pit stop. Jodipan, a former slum, is now referred to as Java’s rainbow village because a group of students, along with a local paint company, took it upon themselves to give the town a complete makeover in order to save it from eviction. I couldn’t help but feel in awe of such an inspiring tale. The memory of the bright, bustling village and the feeling of being able to witness such noble determination made this one of my favorite places to photograph in Indonesia.” 📷@jordhammond 📍Jodipan, Indonesia 🇮🇩 #passionpassport

- “My girlfriend and I woke up at dawn to watch the sun rise over the mountains as we reveled in the beauty of Civita, a hilltop village in central Italy. Connected to reality and the surrounding countryside by a single narrow walkway that leads to an impressive stone passageway, the town gives the impression of entering a world in which time seems to have stopped. Ivy drapes over arches and scrambles up stone walls, potted flowers fill the balconies, and winding stairways are found at every corner. Each alley holds a surprise. As we contemplated the charm of the ancient village, we couldn’t help but feel we’d traveled to a remnant of another life.” 📷@stefanogera 📍Civita, Italy #passionpassport From hilltop views to winding stairways, make sure to check our #PPGravity challenge — link in bio — and enter before noon EST tomorrow!

- “When I began my trip through the Black Forest, a mountainous region in southwest Germany known for its evergreen forests and picturesque villages, I tried my best to include as much as I could in the itinerary. However, as soon as I arrived in Tübingen, I knew instantly that it would be my favorite city in the region. Home to one of Europe’s oldest universities, the small, student-oriented city is brimming with liveliness and diversity. After a pleasant walk through the Old Town area, I ventured to the riverside to catch the sunset. Colorful buildings, gondola-like boat rides, and people picnicking by the river’s edge under the soft light of the afternoon created a picture-perfect moment to capture.” To read more about the region of Baden-Württemberg, click the link in our bio. 📷@bmseventh 📍Tübingen, Germany 🇩🇪 #passionpassport

- “North Cascades National Park is consistently one of the least visited national parks in the United States, but it's not from lack of grandeur. On this particular adventure, my friends and I scrambled up the Early Winters Spire to rig an alpine highline. It's not an activity for the faint of heart and demands focus, strength, and balance. As the sun began to dip below the mountain peaks, I repelled down the face of the spire to capture this image of my good friend Ari (@ariintheair) walking the thin line that has become his place of solace. This experience showed me that going the extra mile is worth it — whether that means going to the more secluded beach that’s just a little further away or to the top of a mountain with over 150 pounds of gear to spend eight hours rigging a line for a couple hours of fun.” 📷@zachdoleac 📍North Cascades National Park, Washington, USA 🇺🇸 #passionpassport Make sure to check out our current #PPGravity challenge — link in bio — and enter by noon EST Sun. 9/9!

- “When I was planning my first trip to New Zealand with my wife and daughter, the distances between different locations seemed small on the map and we thought a two-week road trip would give us plenty of time to explore the country. However, the hikes and photo opportunities at every corner quickly turned our short travels into big journeys. Our winter road trip through the South Island was a remarkable visual experience. The view of Mt. Cook popping out of the clouds was so breathtaking that I was constantly overwhelmed by the desire to stop, grab my camera, and jump out of the car. Though the weather was not always our friend, we were lucky on this particular morning. The sky was clear, so we rushed to the viewpoint where I took this shot. A few minutes later, Mt. Cook was hidden by the clouds. In this moment, I remembered the importance of being both patient and ready as a photographer — you never know when you’ll encounter those seconds of magic.” 📷@ghislain_fave 📍Mt. - “Izmailovo is one of the most photogenic and joyful places in Moscow. I’ve lived in the city for more than 20 years, and this Kremlin in Izmailovo never ceases to amaze me. I don’t like photographing Moscow in the rain, though, so I try to only capture its sunny days. When I checked the forecast on this early August morning, the weather was predicted to be sunny. But as soon as I set out, it began to drizzle. At first, I was disappointed, but then I noticed how the reflections made this palace look like an illustration from a Russian folktale. It was then that I realized it’s not necessary to watch movies or read books to experience a fairytale-like environment — they exist in real life, too. From now on, every time I visit Izmailovo, I hope to capture this fantasy atmosphere that has the power to brighten even a dull, gray day.” 📷@fibi_finch 📍Moscow, Russia #passionpassport

- What destinations from your travels have most surprised you? "Guilin was one of the cities that surprised me most while traveling through China. Although it's best-known for being a base to see its famous surrounding landscapes that resemble iconic Chinese paintings, there is far more to be enjoyed within the city itself. Since Guilin is one of China's most visited areas, I expected it to be packed with tourists and souvenir shops, but in my short time there, I was able to discover so much life, history, and beauty. One evening, I walked along the flower-lined banks of the Lijiang river, passing by fishermen and swimmers looking to escape the summer heat. As the sun set, more and more people gathered to relax and enjoy the colors set against the karst mountains — some even sang and danced. The city took on a peaceful atmosphere as people played in the quiet waters and took the time to appreciate the scenery surrounding them. I then continued my walk and stumbled upon old city walls, parks, and caves dating back to the Ming Dynasty. These unexpected discoveries coupled with the incredible landscapes made for a memorable stop on my journey through China." 📷@joethommas 📍Guilin, China #passionpassport

But for this particular photograph, I turned to my memories. I remembered this lighthouse from a trip I took years ago, and how it rests on the liminal teeter-totter between land and sea. Although I accidentally ate my fair share of strange little water flies while trudging for the shot, it was more than worth it." 📷@een_wasbeer 📍Urk, Netherlands #passionpassport

- "Varanasi, an ancient city located along the Ganges River, is full of traditions and home to colorful houses and narrow streets. In such a crowded setting, everyone knows their neighbors — and their cows. As you walk along the streets, you'll find street traders, monkeys, and brahmans (members of the upper holy class) all living in harmony. Because of the close quarters, it's not uncommon for children to spend time on their rooftops, flying kites and looking upward for a sense of freedom. But even in these tight conditions, as a traveler to Varanasi, I found myself overcome by a soothing and positive sensation throughout the city. I haven't forgotten that feeling since then, and I'm fortunate to have had the chance to experience such a beautiful and ancient place in person." 📷@badiansaunasystem 📍Varanasi, India 🇮🇳 #passionpassport
