- When @hiro_510 visited Japan, he ventured to Tsumago-Juku, Nagano Prefecture, which is known for its traditional Japanese architecture. But the cityscapes and old homes that greeted him surpassed his photographic expectations. While there, he was able to explore the inner workings of the town and witness simple yet beautiful Japanese traditions like the lighting of the Irori (a Japanese hearth). In this particular moment, the crackle of the fire and the smell of smoke filled the room and triggered a sense of nostalgia. To this day, this photo remains special to him, as it captures an instant where he truly felt happy. 📷@hiro_510 📍Tsumago-Juku, Japan #passionpassport

- "I ventured to Lisbon with my friend Christophe in April of this year — it was my first trip to Portugal, and I was drawn to the city because of its opportunities for exploration. This particular street had always been on photography bucket list, so I made sure it was one of my first stops. When I arrived, it was a quiet and sunny morning. All I could hear was the sound of the old tram making its way down the street, slowly. As the funicular passed, I ran behind it so as to capture a central perspective with an unobstructed view. For me, this photo represents a combination of the two things I enjoyed most about the city: its steep streets and hilly reliefs." 📷@dam_pvst Lisbon 📍Portugal #passionpassport

- "I had been in Bali for about a week, but was struggling to relax. My father was recovering from an illness, and although I had considered canceling the trip altogether, he told me to go. Still, it was difficult to be away. Coming face to face with this sunrise reminded me to take a beat to breathe and realize where I was. This moment of calm on Lake Bratan inspired me throughout the rest of my adventure — from swimming alone in a pool beneath a waterfall to witnessing a volcanic eruption at Mt. Agung. Capturing the blushing beauty of this scene allowed me to bottle-up Bali as a reminder that travel is incredible because of its unpredictability. In this moment, I was grateful that I had listened to my father." 📷@girlwanderlist 📍Bali, Indonesia #passionpassport

- "On the morning that I took this photograph, I crossed one of the city's many bridges and knew that I wanted to go back to the same spot later for an evening shoot. When I returned, I was surprised to see how quiet the city was. During the day, you could see countless people and passing boats from this vantage point, but by evening, the area was still. Strolling Venice by night is a wholly different experience than I'd expected." 📷@een_wasbeer 📍Venice, Italy #passionpassport

- "I recently moved from Spain to Egypt, and while I had spent a lot of time traveling through the country before that, I had not had the chance to explore Cairo all that much. This image was taken during a photography walk with a group of locals who meet once a week to explore areas of the city that are not necessarily in their daily sphere. I took the walk slowly, hoping to observe all I could. I always look for small, quiet scenes happening in windows and corners, so when I looked up, I was happy to be met by this kid. He was looking at life pass by on the street below his window through the old Ramadan decorations hanging between the buildings. That stroll was the perfect way to get to know this country and its culture." 📷@a.baq 📍Cairo, Egypt #passionpassport Tell us your #PPTravelEncounters stories for this week’s challenge! - When Lee Bui first arrived in Texas for college, he was more than a little surprised by his first moments in America. He was taken aback by the heat, the need for a car, the lack of skyscrapers. It was certainly a departure from the bright lights, bustling traffic, and towering buildings of his home city in Vietnam. While Lee has gotten accustomed to life in Texas — and now in NYC — he credits the success of his transition from Vietnam to America to a single decision — taking the TOEFL test. - "As I stood in awe of the vibrant colors of Pena Palace, I understood why I needed to embark on a solo trip to Portugal. It was as if the view reawakened my dreams and solidified something in me. Though it was a bit of a trek to reach the palace itself, its fairytale setting was well worth the climb. I loved every minute I spent walking through its vividly painted terraces. Its decorative elements fascinated me and moved me in a way I had never expected." 📷@emersonarchie 📍Sintra, Portugal #passionpassport
