- For someone that has used visuals to express herself most of her life - words fail me at times. Recently I've been interviewed about my process and my thoughts on creativity and staying true to my storytelling vision. Things that are challenging to articulate. Earlier this year I was interviewed about this very thing - but for a podcast. If you want to pretend that you are jumping on an intimate phone call with me to talk about this - then the link is in my profile. This felt a LOT more vulnerable than an article. It felt more raw, unedited, and more of a conversation. It's a love-hate thing (for me) to be forced to truly express and put words to what seems to be intangible at times. I did it again this past Friday with @_heydear for her series on working mothers that create and the words flowed out more easily. And what I’m learning is that the more I simply 'show up', whether I feel 100% prepared, the more of the things I believe I need - words, confidence, clarity - show up with me. So this is me, sharing my rough drafts with YOU in case you need to remember to simply show up too. Because if we only fill our heads with a perfected, final draft… you may deceive yourself of never being ready. And the thing is, you probably are. #alevidalbts

- Had a conversation yesterday with @lizalittle about beauty and how I used to really struggle with that word. It felt manufactured and I never wanted to encourage perfection or surface-level beauty. Because don't we all go through seasons where beauty feels painful and can create feelings of defeat? I direct and create with so much emotion because what I actually wanted to say was: I know beauty because I know darkness too. I do value beauty and my work is centered on creating it. But I seek the kind that is hard to find. This past year that has been on my heart more than ever. And my hope is to create these moments of beauty not so that someone feels "less than" but that in moments of darkness, both you and I can be reminded that beauty exists and is there, waiting for us to see its light. // me captured by the incredible @sfawnd
