- Did you know that Once A King is one of my most anticipated 2018 reads? And did you also know that @erinsummerill is one of the sweetest humans ever! She sent me this ARC in the mail as a surprise and I wish you all could have heard my squeals. I loved her first two books and I’m SO excited she’s written another set in the same world. 💖 . . Thank you SO MUCH Erin for sending me this ARC! I cannot wait to read it!! What are some books that all of you are looking forward to? . . #onceaking #erinsummerill #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #stephaniegarber #authorlife #yabooks #books #ireadya #bookworm #booknerd

- I have a new favorite pillow thanks to the magical @fairyloot & @missphi ❤️🌹❤️ This came in Fairy Loot’s absolutely magical June box, which I am in love with. . I’m going to do a full unboxing in my story later today, but I couldn’t resist sharing this pillow with everyone now. Thank you so much @fairyloot for the Legendary love and for including this in the June box! . . Who else got a subscription box this month and what was your favorite item? It doesn’t have to be from Fairy Loot—I just love hearing about things that other people get excited about. ✨ . . #fairyloot #rebelsinballgowns #legendary #caraval #stephaniegarber #quotes #pillows #authorsofinstagram #booksofinstagram #yabooks #booknerd

- Scarlett and her magical dress! This picture could not be more perfect. I love the hair, the dress, the earrings, and the thoughtful look on her face, since Scarlett is a rather thoughtful character. Thank you so much @whimsicalillustration for using your talent to create this magical work of art. ❤️🌹❤️ . #Repost @whimsicalillustration with @get_repost ・・・ So I had to redraw Scarlett Dragna from @stephanie_garber ‘s Caraval. ✨🎪✨I just didn’t feel like my first attempt quite captured her. Sometimes it takes a couple tries before you can recreate what’s in your mind’s eye.🙃 . You know us artists... Never fully satisfied. 😬🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ll leave the old one posted for a little while before I delete it so you can go back and take a look at the differences. 😁 . I just finished reading Legendary and definitely want to draw a few things from there too but had to get Scarlett right first before I could move on. 🙈😅 . . #caraval #stephaniegarber #scarlettdragna #illustrationartists #portraitillustration #legendary #fanarts #caravalfanart #booksofinstagram #yabooks #books #ireadya

- I never feel as if I have enough time. I never feel fast enough, or that I get enough done. I’m always feeling behind. When I got back from tour, a little over two weeks ago, I felt really behind. I was supposed to turn in a draft of Finale before going on tour but it wasn’t done, so I knew I needed to get to work on it right away. But I didn’t have it in me. I was exhausted—mentally and physically. So, I took what felt like a risk and I took a break. . For an entire week I didn’t write. I caught up on some emails, I caught up on normal life things like laundry and cleaning, I took about three naps a day, and I read—a lot. I actually read five books, which is more than I’d read the entire month of May. I felt a guilty about the book I was supposed to be writing. I’d asked for more time and here I was using it to read and to sleep. And it was the best choice I could have made. . This last week has probably been the best writing week I’ve had all year—maybe for the past two years. I’ve been waking up by 6 feeling excited and inspired and eager to open my computer. I can tell a difference in the words I’m writing too. I’m having more fun with them, and I’m falling more in love with this book rather than fearing it, as I had before I took my little break. . Breaks are hard for me. I want to do my best and resting sometimes feels like doing nothing. I don’t know if any of you can relate to this—to this fear or rest and this need to never stop. I think sometimes it’s important to keep going and to push through even though you’re tired. But sometimes, I think doing my best means taking a break and taking care of myself. 💖 . I wrote this post because lately people have been asking me for writing advice. So if you all like this idea, I might try to do weekly writing posts. This one was the one that was on my heart for this week because I think resting is so important to writing, but it’s something I really struggle with. Is anyone else there with me on this? And what do you all think about weekly writing posts? . . #amwiting #authorsofinstagram #onlyoneofthesewatchesworks #stephaniegarber #caraval #writersofinstagram #books

- It amazes me how much life can change in three years. When I woke up this morning I remembered that three years ago yesterday I made a choice that shifted everything. I sold Caraval, then titled Hearts Made Of Black, to @sssdb at @flatiron_books 💖 It was one of the happiest and most surprising days of my life. I’d been living with my parents for 6 years, working as an adjunct creating writing instructor and praying every day for a miracle. And it then happened. . . I’m a big Pride and Prejudice fan and I remember feeling like Jane after Mr Bingley proposed—I wanted every to be this happy, and I was especially happy because I’d brought so much joy to my family, who had experienced every rejection with me, they’d seen me struggle, and I doubt any of us imagined it would end in such a happy way. . . This is a picture of me signing a contract, although it’s not my book contract. I don’t think I was wearing makeup the day I signed those so I wouldn’t let anyone photograph me. 🙈These are the contracts I signed for Twentieth Century Fox, who purchased the film option on the same day that the book sold. It was one of the most unbelievable moment of my life. 💖 . Dreams and miracles happen, sometimes it just takes a very long time. For me it took six years, and it was worth every single rejection and every moment of waiting. . Thank you again @jennybent @sssdb & @flatiron_books for making so many dreams come true. And to anyone reading this who has a dream, I hope it comes true, I hope it’s worth whatever heartache you’ve experienced, and I hope it’s better than you could have ever imagined. ✨🌟 . If anyone does has a dream that they’re hoping will someday come true—no matter how big or small—I’d love to hear about it in the comments. . . . #dreamscometrue #stephaniegarber #caraval #flatironbooks #authorsofinstagram #authorlife #amwriting #booksofinstagram

- How far do you think I’d have to ride my bike to end up in Faerieland? . I’m almost done with The Wicked King by @blackholly but I don’t want to finish it because I don’t want it to end. I loved The Cruel Prince and The Wicked King is equally fantastic. I’m a little afraid and a little in love with every page I read. 🖤 . - I will always love Julian, and I absolutely love this picture of him by @whimsicalillustration ❤️ Character art always makes my heart so happy! . . #Repost @whimsicalillustration with @get_repost ・・・ Another Caraval interpretation of Julian. There is no description of his hair in the book so I just improvised. 🙈😬 I loved him from the moment he arrived in this book, so I had to give him a boyish sailor feeling which is how he is first presented to the reader. . Character is inspired from @stephanie_garber ‘s book Caraval. This book is a magical and beautiful adventure, you should definitely add it to your reading list! The sequel, Legendary was just released as well - I can’t wait to read it! 🙌✨ . . #stephaniegarber #caraval #bookfanart #legendary #illustratorsoninstagram #bookcharacter #illustrationartists #caravalfanart
