- Finished up planting the remaining daffodils today with the help of @polliwogs_slippers! We tucked the last few hundred into crates since the bed space is all taken at this point. I can’t wait to be harvesting these beauties again come April. I’ve been thinking lately about how it’s so hard to work seasonally, you go like crazy and then it all just slows. It’s a major shift in gears, it’s now time to get all the ducks in a row for 2018 (and to plant the ranunculus 😍). #daffodils #bridalcrowndaffodils #flowersofinstagram #flowerlove #flowerfarmer

- This is my warm workshop right now. Since we’re still building our tiny farm up with the infrastructure we need I make due with what I have. I’m beyond fortunate to be just two doors away from my dad and stepmom (in fact most of the land I farm is theirs!). So this is my dad’s blacksmith shop and it’s where I make wreaths, cozy with a woodstove. This morning I mentioned in a quick conversation with my stepmom that I was going to make some wreaths that morning. When I got to the shop, my dad was standing on the back porch. I told him I was going to make wreaths and build a fire in the stove. He said he already built one for me. I was baffled at how he even knew I was coming (flashback to convo with Jan). These are the kinds of help and support that they shower on me so frequently. I am truly lucky and blessed, each day I take for granted less and less what a treasure I have here in this farm and this family. #blacksmithshop #family #winterfarmwork #whatidointhewinter #flowerfarm #flowerfarmlife

- I’m missing the flowers here! It’s hard to believe that this photo was taken just a few weeks ago; now the field is brown. Yesterday I finished up storing the dahlias that I wanted to keep. All the rest in the field will be ‘mixed’ due to poor labeling, they may or may not get brought in. Another lesson learned for next season (organize better ✔️). I’ve got some new varieties on order for 2017 and am super excited to get these babies growing again (the winter will go by quick, right?!). #dahlias #marylandgrownflowers #flowerfarmer #botanicalpickmeup

- These were the prettiest passengers today, delivered to @localcolorflowers this morning. It’s been my challenge to keep the dahlias going as long as possible this year. It’s difficult for us to cover them since we don’t have a good structure in place for that, so we’ve used a sprinkler set to go off in the early morning when danger of frost is the highest. Fruit growers often use this method in early spring when frost threatens to damage blossoms that will bear fruit. So far it’s worked for us; tonight’s forecast is 37, so we’ll see if they can be spared again! #fun #experiments #dahlias #fallflowers #marylandgrownflowers

- A last minute bulk order of flowers for a bride going out this evening. We will have dahlias and a few mixed flowers other than mums for about two more weeks. The season is drawing to a close and I’m eager to move on to other projects like putting up our new high tunnel, planting bulbs, digging dahlias, repurposing our mini barn into a packing and design studio, and planning all the good things we’ll be growing in 2018. Enjoy this beautiful fall weather this weekend! 🍂🌾
