- — @marcmegna So you want to start a business. You want to be an owner. Here are a few things you may appreciate. You think you have all the answers. You may think you will do a better job than the people who you previously worked for. I did. This is the exact same thing as a sports fan. It’s like watching a pro game and believing you’d coach a better game than Bill Belichick. That’s when you know you’re officially drinking your own cool-aid. You’ll deal with independent trainers hoping to work with clients right in front of you, instagram stars who believe they’re doing you a favor, and newcomers who believe they have figured things out. You invested your blood, sweat, and yes, tears into your dream. You’ve made expected sacrifices. When you start off you really think highly of yourself and have all the answers. Unfortunately this is a short lived moment. You will have turnover on your team. Remember, you’re not looking for the “BEST” ones you’re looking for the “RIGHT” ones. You started a business because you believed in your heart that you could make a positive contribution helping people become their best selves. That means you’ll need high character people who communicate well and have pure hearts. Im fortunate to have some great ones @anatomy They’ll always show you who they really are through their actions. You have the responsibility of having the uncomfortable talks that no one else wants to have. Because of this it’s very unlikely you’ll be liked by all. Don’t aim to be liked. Aim to be respected. You must be completely immersed in the culture. There is no half in. Emails don’t stop and text never stop. There’s a few things that will never change - 1. The best way to teach is to do. 2. Don’t expect anyone to put in the hours or the effort you do. They haven’t invested what you have so it’s not the same. 3. Maximum patience is a requirement not an option 4. You must have empathy for others 5. Just like taking your vehicle to the car wash no one will clean it like you. 6. When things go well it’s because of the TEAM. 7. Praise in public, correct in private. 8. You’re not perfect 9. Learn the most important skill. How to sincerely apologize.
