- I used to be skinny. I didn’t think so at the time because I wouldn’t eat. When I did, I would throw it up. I battled with restrictive bulimia for about five years. While the eating disorder got better, my mental health got worse as it evolved into more dangerous forms of coping. I was able to get the help I needed to turn it around before doing irreversible harm. I was put on medication after my lowest point and around the time the first picture as taken. I dropped about 20 pounds within the first two months. People kept asking me what “my secret” was to dropping so much weight. I was showered with praise and compliments for about five months. Then I plateaued. As I recovered, I gained weight. Within a few years my weight stopped being a subject of praise and started being a topic of shame. I am now about 40 pounds heavier. I get upset seeing these pictures because I look back at my habits compared to now. I used to eat poorly all of the time and exercise out of self hatred. I used to exercise because I felt that I had to punish my body. Yet, I lost a dramatic amount of weight. Now I eat generally well but I am much heavier than I was before. I exercise because I love it and how it makes me feel but I am much heavier than before. I am able to eat and move and live semi-freely (100% more freely than I could when I took that picture) but I am much heavier than before. I used to be skinny but now I am not. I am overweight. I used to be skinny but now I am strong. I used to be skinny but now I am healthy. I am not suicidal and I am not entirely dependent on medications to function (but if you take meds, go you! you’re doing great and I love you). I used to be skinny but now I’m okay. I’m happy. In front of the treadmill we have a sectional with a sounds system and big tv to really motivate me! Q : เล่นหลังไปทำไม เล่นเพื่ออะไร? I had lunch with a new friend today (that I got connected to because of this journey) and she asked what got me started. Stubbornness and love was my answer. - A lot of people look at me and think - “well she’s always been athletic that’s why SHE can do it” or “she’s never been that overweight...” or “she’s always been strong...” or fill in the blank... That’s why I love that @brookenfrench and I are on this journey together because we tell two completely different stories! . . Yes, I’ve always been athletic but no I haven’t always been “fit” or healthy by any means. Yes, I played sports my whole life but I also would come home and eat an entire pack of Oreos or a plate of Skyline dip (many people can attest to this) and never actually cared about my health or well-being. . . Well this caught up to me in college and honestly up until I got a Nike Fuelband in 2014. It motivated me to hit my steps...it motivated me to start running...it motivated me to run a full marathon! . . I began to change my entire lifestyle and push myself in new ways (nutrition, weight lifting, etc.) which in turn pushed me to even change my career path! . . It’s not just something I’ve always done. You may not see a huge difference between my pictures but my entire life has changed, not just my appearance. My confidence, my mindset, my view of myself, my career, my lifestyle. BUT keep in mind. This has been a process over the last FOUR YEARS! It doesn’t happen over night. . .
