- VISIBLE MENDING FOR DOGS: Chilli is an office dog at one of my workplaces and she is super sweet. When she tore her special chilli bandanna I had to help!
Step 1 was to assess the rip and work out what type of embellishment might fit that shape - the right angle was perfect for a bow. I used fusible web and scrap denim to patch the bandanna from the reverse and keep it from ripping further. I zig-zag-stitched over the rip to secure all the threads (the red stitching you can see in the reverse photo). Then I created the bow in two separate parts: the tails of the bow were stitched on by machine (the aqua rectangles you see in the reverse photo), then the loops were stitched on by hand. I used a few drops of FrayCheck to prevent the edges of the bow from unravelling.
I've thought a bit about whether this is really visible mending or the opposite - embellishing to hide the mend and keep it a secret. (Would @tomofholland approve or disapprove?) It still has the same impact - heaps of people have noticed the ribbon and commented, which presents ongoing opportunities for Chilli's owner to say it's been mended (if she chooses to). I think if I can inspire those conversations, and show people that mending doesn't have to be boring or ugly, I'm on the right track. What do you think?
#cellorules #geige #schnecke #schlegel #wappen #familie #hälfte #wirbelkasten #whatsonyourbench
