- The Arc de Triomphe is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It's located on the western end of the Champs-Elysees and the center of Place Charles de Gaulle. It was inaugurated on July 29th (My birthday before it was my birthday - mark it down 😉) 1836. It was built to honor those who fought and died for France in the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. The names of all French victories and generals is inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath it lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from WWI. It was the tallest triumphal arc until 1938. Famous victory marches under this arc include the Prussians (Germans) in 1871 after defeating France, the French in 1919 WWI, The Germans again in 1940 (Hitler marched throughout the city after taking it from the French), the French/Allies in 1944 & 1945. There are now plaques remembering the struggles of WWI, WWII and Nazi occupation under the arc. #ArcDeTriomphe #ChampsElysees #PlaceDeLaConcorde #TombOfTheUnknownSoldier #Paris #France #WWI #WW2 #Germany #Prussia #WorldTraveler #WeekendExplorer #EuroTrip #LegionOfBoom #PicOfTheDay #BallSOHard #MotherFathers #WannaFindMe #FirstYouGottaFindMe #CatchMeIfYouCan #IDontThinkYouCan #WheresWaldo #WhereInTheWorldIs #CarmenSandiego #GotABrokeClock #RolliesThatDontTickTock #AudemarsThatsLosingTime #HiddenBehindAllTheseBigRocks
