- We’re back with another #BearingStars — this month, we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Straub! Barbara is a Senior Support Specialist in our Mansfield, Connecticut office. She joined Bearingstar Insurance in 2005 and has worked in the insurance industry for over 40 years! Barbara works with a great team to process policy requests quickly and accurately for all of our Connecticut offices. “I am very fortunate to work with lots of great people and teams across the Bearingstar organization, including customer service, sales, billing, underwriting, and the marketing department Facebook team for our charitable donations. I love collaborating on different projects and can say my days are never boring — the time flies by each day!” Outside of the office, Barbara dedicates her time to giving back to the community. “I am a 25-year member of Soroptimist International of Willimantic, a global women’s service organization working to improve the lives of women and girls. I’m also a past president of the organization.” Barbara has also been involved with the local Relay for Life since it began 22 years ago and is the team captain of the Soroptimist Relay for Life team, which includes several Bearingstar employees. Additionally, Barbara has been a volunteer for the Greater Windham Special Olympics Swim Meet for more than 20 years. In addition to her commitment to her community, Barbara enjoys spending time with her husband and their two dogs and two cats. “We love hiking in the woods with the dogs and try to get out every day. We love animals and nature.” They’re also big fans of the Uconn basketball team — “Go Huskies!”

Bethany joined the team this summer and works as a content creator, journalist, and venue recruiter! • Bethany loves working in craft beer because “I’m inspired everyday by the creators I meet. Brewers put all of who they are into their craft and it’s beautiful to see and learn about. I’m honestly so blessed to be working for a company that is promoting local craft breweries!” • Bethany loves a good sour beer, hazy IPA, or darker stout! Catch her at one of our upcoming events or check out her latest article for us in our bio!

- Sindi Rosales has served as the Chief Executive Officer for the Epilepsy Foundation Central & South Texas for 23 years. In 1995, with only $1,800 in their bank account, the EFCST Board of Directors voted to close the doors of the failing organization. Ms. Rosales who was a member of the Board of Directors offered to step in as the Executive Director. Sindi’s ferocious passion, dedication, drive, and determination were inspired by her daughter Jessica whose life was dramatically and forever changed after being diagnosed with Rasmussen’s Encephalitis and undergoing a hemispherectomy in 1994. From the humble beginnings which included garage sales, car washes, and bake sales to sustain their existence Sindi has built EFCST into one of the strongest affiliates in the Epilepsy Foundation National Network which last year reached a million dollar budget! - Hi, I’m Karen Andrews and I’m the Director of Disability Services Center. It has been five months since I started working at the DSC back in April! Not only did I want the opportunity to work at the UC Irvine, one of the Top 10 public universities in the nation, but I saw that the DSC had an already established vision that I felt I could bring to the next level! I grew up in a small town in Delaware, and later in the capital of Dover. I was living three miles from the Atlantic Ocean! As an undergraduate student, I went to Northern Arizona University as a double major in Elementary Education and Special Education. I then studied at Strayer University and received my Masters in Adult Education and Development. One of my favorite undergrad memories was when I worked on the Navajo Reservation, and I got the chance to go down into the canyons and visit the sheep camps. I also remember getting bubble gum on my first day of Navajo language classes, which helped with my throat when learning their sound system. Outside of the office, I love to travel. I’ve easily been to at least 35 countries! I also love spending hours reading on end. If I could be anywhere in the world right now, I’d be in Tahiti!! While I am inspired my many, I would say I am who I am today because of my father. I never wanted to live a boring life, and you don’t have to live one either! “Everyday is an adventure!” #StaffSpotlight #ZotAbility #UCIDSC #UCIrvine #DisabilityAwareness #UCIPride
