- I try to keep myself healthy through workout; but from the day I started using @healthifyme I realized that a little bit of dieting and healthy eating is equally important ! Now I'm able to keep a track of my calorie intake which made me aware on healthy eating habits due to the help of my coaches who are available on the app and also the best part is the water intake reminder as I can see a great change in my body! It is the true union of our will with the will of God. Mahadev Desai says yoga is the “yoking of all powers of body, mind, and soul to God; it means the disciplining of the intellect, the mind, the emotions, the will, which that Yoga presupposes; it means a poise of the soul which enables one to look at life in all its aspects evenly.” (Referencing Iyengar’s ‘Light on Yoga’) I love that.....the poise of the soul which allows the yogi to look at life evenly. I first started practicing yoga (or asana=the physical practice) for exercise. What I have learned from personal experience over the years is that the physical postures are merely a gateway or doorway INSIDE. Today, I truly want my life to be aligned with the will of the Lord. All three of these limbs of yoga —-Asana (postures), dharana (mindfulness), and dhyana (meditation), when practiced together allow ME to hear my will, the Lord’s will, and a lot of things in between. Even though I loved being inverted as a kid I completely lost touch with that part of myself by my 20s. I had to overcome a lot of fear of hurting myself especially my neck (which plagued me with chronic pain for many many years) in learning to do headstands. But once I overcame that fear, inversions have helped me overcome fear in other areas of my life. Inversions also give your internal organs a break and pep you up (much like peppermint) so are like an antidote to a depressive state. The great thing about headstands is that they can be done anywhere. Always learn from a qualified teacher and listen to your body. - // INVERSIONS // When I started Iyengar yoga 19 years ago I found inversions very challenging. Even though I loved being inverted as a kid I completely lost touch with that part of myself by my 20s. I had to overcome a lot of fear of hurting myself especially my neck (which plagued me with chronic pain for many many years) in learning to do headstands. But once I overcame that fear, inversions have helped me overcome fear in other areas of my life. Inversions also give your internal organs a break and pep you up (much like peppermint) so are like an antidote to a depressive state. The great thing about headstands is that they can be done anywhere. Always learn from a qualified teacher and listen to your body. I have immense gratitude to my Iyengar yoga teachers both in Melbourne and Sydney with their rigorous and meticulous attention to detail and for helping me reconnect myself with my body 🙏🏻#iyengar #yoga #iyengaryoga #movement #staraniseorganic
