- On the 30th of March 1867, the United States acquired Alaska from the Russian empire. This was known as the "Alaska Purchase" and it was signed by President Andrew Johnson. The minister of foreign affairs, William Seward negotiated the deal and the final price for Alaska was 7.2 million dollars. Although it first might seem like a lot it was actually an extremely cheap price. 7.2 million dollars for 1.518.800 square kilometres, meant that the US was paying 2 cents per 4000 square kilometres! Regardless of the cheap price, Seward's opponents called the Alaska Purchase: "Seward's Folly" since they all thought he payed 7.2 million dollars for dirt and snow. These opinions changed, when in 1896, a very large sum of gold was found in Alaska. Decades later, they found huge oil fields! Originally organized as the Department of Alaska, the area was renamed the District of Alaska and then Alaska territory before becoming the modern state of Alaska upon being admitted to the union as a state in 1959. The Alaska Purchase was a very big moment in history, and was one of the US' best deals. The United states profited a lot from this purchase from 1867 onwards. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Tag your friends! Did you enjoy my post? - PSA // #thyroidawareness ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ i guess it's a kinda tumblr-instagram-millenial thing to say how you're just aaalways tired, that you can't function without a cup of coffee first and everything. however if you get enough sleep regularly and still don't feel rested it might actually be an indicator that something is wrong. it is NOT a normal thing to always be tired! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ // i've lived quite a few years being "always tired", accompanied with a wide range of symptoms which i wasn't aware were symptoms. no healthy person knows that kind of tiredness that can't be cured by any amount of sleep. after years it became a draining omni-present fatigue which killed my confidence and positivity and replaced said things with self-doubt and hopelessness. i didn't have energy for anything anymore. everything was a struggle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ it took some miserable years until one doctor finally did the right tests and diagnosed a chronic autoimmune disorder, which was slowly destroying my thyroid. it's been three years since the diagnosis and i know i'll never be as well as a healthy person but i'm very grateful that these days i'm able to work 40h/week, come home and still have energy to do all the things normal people do (mostly). my heart aches thinking about where i could be if my illness had been treated earlier and how much i burnt out during the years trying to keep up with everyone else. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ i just don't want anyone else to struggle like that. so here's just a heads up, a reminder, the simple information, that if you are continually lacking energy despite getting enough sleep and living a healthy life, you should see a doctor to at least eliminate any potential illnesses or imbalances. don't let yourself suffer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #spoonie #chronicillness #autoimmunedisorder #thyroidawareness #hypothyroidism #hyperthyroidism #hashibuddies #tired #alwaystired #font #design #graphicdesign #health #coffee #flowers #tumblr #psa #information #dontsettleforanythingless

- Just because I’m not in school anymore does not mean I stop learning. In the field of exercise science and strength & conditioning, new information is always being published and theories are challenged. That’s the joy of science. The human body is arguably the most complex organism on Earth. Us as strength & conditioning coaches are always looking to develop programs to provide optimal athletic performance. There are many variables to take into account. There are three things I always think of personally: functionality, specialization, and individualization. Is what I’m doing make sense functionally with the human body? Is what I’m doing specialized for the profile of the individual? Is what I’m doing made for that individual only? (Because no two people are the same.) Above all else, am I doing enough on my part to be the best I can be? This is why research is important. @nscaofficial @functionalmvmt
