- Practiced asanas tonight that I was taught during my yoga vacation. Focused on the sun salutation. Feels good to move after travelling. I am hoping to keep this routine as part of my daily ritual. A typical session includes pranayama (breathing exercises), warm-ups including Sun Salutations (Surya Namaskar), 12 basic asanas (postures) and deep relaxation. The focus is on mastering the basic asanas from which variations are then added to further deepen the practice. The asanas follow an exact order that allows for the systematic movement of every major part of the body in a balanced way that enhances prana or life force energy, keeping the mind quiet and without the need to think beyond each individual pose. I will not be doing it for 2 hours twice a day but I will do the major 3 (headstand, shoulder stand and forward bend) regularly as well as some pranayama breathing. Here are the 3 that I worked on: 1. KAPALABHATI (passive inhale/forceful exhale), This cleansing breath can help you not only release stress and toxins from the mind and body, it can also help release negative emotions, shake off sluggishness, and energize. 2. You can also do this with just a block, free of the wall just be mindful you are keeping the hips stacked and torso lifted. Squeeze and lift is the key. Press firmly through your standing leg and lift through the knee. Squeeze the ground facing side of the torso, feel those obliques engage while your sky side obliques are receiving a lovely deep and long stretch. Pointed the toes of the lifted leg and engage through out the leg and tush and remained lifted through the hips. Start by holding each side for 30 seconds, work at shifting your gaze up to further challenge your #balancegame . Work up to holding each side for a minute !!
