- Today was REFEED Day!!! It was amazing to enjoy a waffle, graham crackers and a burger on a bun!! What?!? . So while I am super excited that going forward I will enjoy a refeed day every 2 weeks for the rest of the program, I was very curious as to why Refeed Days are built in.  I am happy to follow directions, but I always need to understand the reasons behind it.  So based on some Google research (very scientific, I know!!) here is what I learned: . When you are cutting calories for an extended period of time a hormone called leptin starts to deplete.  Leptin is important because it helps regulate hunger (cravings much???) and keeps your metabolism humming along. . So how do we boost our leptin?  We get some good old carbohydrates into our system!! Leptin loves a calorie boost from carbs (not fat). The increase in carbs will also replenish glycogen stores in our muscles allowing for more effective workouts in the days to come (yep...it's leg day tomorrow). . But even better than the physical benefits, it's a nice break from the plan I've been on for the last six weeks and gives me something to look forward for the rest of the program.
