- #authorlifemonth: a challenge overcome (skipping ahead a day because I have too many 5-star reads to choose fromπŸ“š). so i've always had a hard time speaking in front of people. πŸ™Š truthfully, i'd literally be more comfortable singing in front of a crowd (because there's music, and other musicians, etc) or acting in a play (because your playing a part) before speaking. when you speak in front of people, it's just you. you are laid bare for everyone to see and that scares the hell out of me. 😬 the first time i had to speak in front of a crowd as an author was at the bay area book festival. i was under the impression i was going to be on a panel with other authors, but when i arrived i discovered that for the "teen stage event" every author did their panel individually. 😡 not gonna lie, when i heard i was going to be speaking alone, i thought about leaving. i even thought if somehow i magically came down with food poisoning so i'd have an excuse to leave, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. 🀒 spoiler alert: i stayed. and it was one of those situations where i faced my fear so dramatically it was like ripping off a band aide. and honestly, the panel went really well and i had a really great time and met some amazing people!! now, speaking in front of a crowd doesn't bother me so much (well ... for the most part πŸ˜‰) but more than anything, i'm just happy i didn't let my fear control the situation. because let's be real, fear is the worst. πŸ‘ŠπŸ½

- i posted this on twitter 🐦 last night but wanted to share it here too. sometimes, it's easy to feel jealous or bitter towards people when you see them doing the things you want to be doing. but the truth is, blowing out someone else's flame won't make yours shine brighter. πŸ”₯ so why not support each other and celebrate the accomplishments of others instead? πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ i vote yes to that βœ”οΈ #truth #supporteachother #realtalk edit: wanted to add this tweet was posted following an insightful article i read about the importance of women supporting women πŸ™ŒπŸ½
