- Are you a hoarder? I find it hard to throw things away. Today I think I may have reaped a reward. Aside from the bracken and a few seedheads foraged today in a hedgerow and my garden. The flowers are all things I’ve kept. My husband hates the ‘dust-collecting dried flowers. Today I’m rather glad I didn’t throw them out. The sight of it on the wall is gladdening my heart. It won’t be ‘allowed’. So I’ll need to find it a new home. But for now I’m a bit in love. Enjoy your Sunday and cherish your hoarding!

- Did you get up to anything crazy for Children in Need. At my nursery school we were all asked to wear something spotty. I wore far too much spotty... black and white spot camisole, black and white spot shirt, pink and white spot scarf and a black skirt covered in shocking pink dots. Then I found spots in nature to top off my crazy get up. Our country should be feeling proud today over £50 million raised so far. What I want to do next is find out how to access funds for some of the very needy children that I teach. By the way did you spot the tiny hidden Pudsey bear?

- Taking on a challenge. Lovely Katie of @ponderosa_and_thyme set a challenge in a live video of making a bouquet with supermarket roses. Her technique of gently reversing the petals was quite tricky but certainly made them look interesting. Quite pleased with the overall effect. What do you think? Wondering if I should have waited longer till they opened more. If you haven’t seen Katie’s live videos this month yet keep an eye out for them. She is a wonderful teacher and such a joy to spend time with and generous to share her knowledge so freely with this community. I know I’m not alone feeling grateful for her.

- Flowers on a mission. Not home grown. Though chrysanthemums and alstroemerias from my local flower farmer and foliage from my garden. These are hopefully a pick-me-up tonic to a sweet supply colleague at Nursery who is undergoing chemo for breast cancer. She’s young, kind, fun, funny and sweet with children. She’s also being very brave and trying to make sure all our community knows how to check their breasts with her posts on Facebook. I was so glad to be able to contribute my skills for making her a gift. Thanks to Irmina for delivering and to Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme for teaching me the tap method and how to get those roses a bit more open and gorgeous.

- A wreath made for Chichester Quakers who had permission for the first time ever to lay a white poppy wreath for peace at the war memorial today. It was a great honour to create this and brought many poignant memories of my Mother’s maiden aunts May and Lilly who lost both their two brothers and their fiancés in the Great War. My mother’s family who were lucky to escape from Burma at very short notice when the country was invaded in the Second World War. Also my father in law who was so brave in WW2 and who as an RAF pilot lost so many friends in action. The caption remembers both military and civilians who have been the victims of war and exhorts us all to work hard for peace. At the Quakers’ meeting in Chichester today someone spoke about the significance of the ingredients. The rosemary for remembrance and the honesty (lunaria) were particularly well received.

- Fading loveliness. Thanks to my niece Amba @amba86xx for posting her bouquet one week on. I too appreciate watching the transformation as plants fade and die. It reminds me of the cycle of life and the need to seek the beauty in all of it. Time changes everything. It’s something we need to learn to accept with good grace however difficult that path might be. Not an easy one. Lots of autumnal rumination going on in my head. This weekends task is to begin the preparation for a very special commission. I have been asked to make a white poppy wreath for Chichester Quakers who have permission for the first time ever to lay one at Chichester’s War Memorial. Thinking lots about the ‘Great War’ so many lives cut far too short. The sadness of families receiving terrible news in telegrams and the elderly ladies I remember as a little girl. Particularly Lilly and May, maiden aunts to my dear Mum who lost two brothers in the war and their fiancés too.

- Going asymmetric with foraged bits from the garden. My neighbour kindly gave me access to hers too. She thinks this is the nicest I’ve made yet ... that made me really chuffed. So enjoyed mixing fresh and dried materials and also practising the technique I learned with lovely Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme. The mixed materials feel appropriate for the season. I’m hoping for reasonable weather now that I’m on half term and I must try and do some serious garden tidying. Thanks to my friend Lucy for taking the photo.

- Reflecting on life cycles and hearing the song Autumn Leaves playing out in my mind. The garden is fading but still serving up beauty. Life is beautiful... when it’s new it can be so perfect. As we age we might get more interesting but some of the glow goes. Old age and illness bring sadness. My dear friend had the results back from her CT scan today and after 6 good months where she has looked so much better and has been able to enjoy life again, she has discovered that her wretched tumour has doubled in size and is possibly affecting other areas of her body. I’d been hoping for a miracle. I’m sad and scared for her and what the coming treatments will deal up. But it’s the circle of life. She is amazing. So strong. So philosophical. I hope your days are full of the positives.

- Moody bedroom flatlay on my bedside table. A little reminder to tell me that I have what it takes and I am enough. Wise words from Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme at the workshop in London. The flowers are bits that fell off my arrangement and bouquet on the journey home. The little rock was a gift from Katie to all the participants. This one is from the desert. Remember to tell yourself that you have what it takes and that you are enough... It's easy to doubt, it's easy to lack confidence, it's easy to mess up. But we all need to believe! Have a good week! So glad to have met such talented, creative people last week and a big thank you to others who made me realise that Katie's workshop was something I really needed to do.

- Celebrating a homecoming. My daughter has arrived home safely after her year abroad. A year of hard work and self-discovery. I think she's made much more of her year than I did with mine so many years ago. So glad we have a shared love of languages. And so begins the 'finals' year at Surrey. Her job in France finished yesterday and term starts on Monday ... so it's all rather hectic. So glad Guildford is not too far away from home. Putting flowers in her room as a welcome gift is becoming a tradition. The flowers are a mix from the garden and the lovely flowers from the workshop with the wonderful Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme last Sunday in London.

- Another bright bouquet for school. One colleague said these took her back to a picture book she'd loved as a child. Sharing them is good and they bring me good cheer every time I go into the staff room. May take some for the room I'm teaching in tomorrow if they haven't all been washed away in the night... rain, rain go away! It's mostly from the garden with a few bits of foliage from Colombia Road as I relive Sunday's divine flower workshop with Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme ... the ladies at work were very taken with the amaranthus which somehow avoided capture here. There were lots of giggles about having a feel of the dangly bits 😊😳💕

- Gratitude for yesterday. Late last night I put my flowers 'to bed' gave them a long drink and this morning had another go. This one's called 'Dear Katie, dear John'. Thank you for creating such a wonderful supportive space and meditative time. If you are ever hesitating about taking a workshop with Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme don't hesitate. Find the wherewithal somehow and do it. It will be a life transforming moment. Also one Sunday take yourself off to Columbia Road flower market in London and soak up an amazing atmosphere.

- Did I really buy that dahlia? I know I was desperate and bereft when I lost my old ones... Did I think I was buying a sunflower? Maybe I am going senile. Anyway it seems to work in here and today I needed flowers at work to tell my colleagues we all matter and we all make a difference and we're all doing the best we can at home, at work and everywhere. Some days are diamonds and some days are stones as John Denver sang. Today was a stone. Tomorrow I hope I'll do better ... I can but try. Keep seeking that light. I try my best to be kind and caring. It's hard when you fall short and mess up.
