- Straight outta New Jersey comes Patricia Dombroswki aka Patti Cakes, a white, plus-size aspiring rapper who must fight through a world of strip malls and strip clubs in an unlikely quest for glory in this, one of the year's most joyous films.
A huge breakout hit at Sundance, this debut from director Geremy Jasper introduces us to the world of Patricia "Patti Cakes" Dombrowski (a force of nature performance from Danielle Macdonald), who spends her days rapping and daydreaming. When she meets outsider Basterd, she assembles her ragtag crew and ignores the haters telling her to dream a little smaller - is hip hop superstardom around the corner?
Full of head-nodding beats and infectious energy, we dare you not to fall in love with the film and its one-of-a-kind hero.

- Rise announces their 3rd Awards, Dinner & Dance event
Rise is a not-for-profit social enterprise that was established in 2013 by founders Sandra Gordon and Lynn Mareno who recognised the lack of visibility of black businesses on the high street.
Date: 9th September 2017
Venue: City Hall, College Green, Bristol BS1 5TR
One of the ways is to facilitate recognition of the role models within our community and therefore creating aspirational beliefs, is through our annual awards event. The Mayor of Bristol Marvin Rees was so impressed with last year's Awards that he requested we hold this year’s event in City Hall.
The Mayor will be in attendance along with some of the most influential members of our community and we have enlisted a number of top entertainers for this event, including award winning artist Janet Kay and comic Mr Cee. As well as a rich selection of Bristol talent including Celestine, Lawrence Hoo, Cleo Lake and drummers from Dmac.
We will be honouring the following winners for 2017, Business of the year, New Business of the Year, Entrepreneur and Young Entrepreneur of the year, Outstanding contribution to the community and Life time achievement award from within the BME community. Marvin Rees will also be presenting ‘The Mayors award’ which will be awarded to someone who has provided above and beyond for their community.
This is a great endorsement of the key individuals and organisations in the city who are part of our historical legacy and who are laying the pathway for a more equal and inclusive future for all in Bristol.
Coverage of the event with profiles of the nominees is a positive news story about what is happening in Bristol, it can also be a blueprint for other cities, and help to increase Bristol’s profile as a diverse city. #riseawards2017 #riseawards #rise2017 #marvinrees #cityhallbristol #bristol
