- JUNE: My birthday month...& as I turn 34, I have to admit...in so many ways, 33 has been absolutely amazing...but, in a lot of ways, I've been struggling a lot too. I'm too hard on myself, narcissistic at times (a lot of times), struggling to be consistent with my health, nutrition and overall wellness like I like to...& honestly, Instagram, at times, is a big contributor to those issues with the excess of time I can waste on it, the amount of unnecessary stimulus it brings and also, the false comparison and identity issues I can have with it. With that said, I am taking the entire month of June off from social media to help myself mentally. I need to focus on a better routine and continue to break cycles and habits that are counterproductive to the goals that I have for me, my family and our overall health. I am trusting this process and the convictions that are showing themselves strongly. I am still around; still tattooing; still taking appointments and am looking forward to being extremely intentional with my birthday month...making July, when I'm back on IG, a brand new start to a "new me". I need this, my family needs this & although not as important as those other two things...I believe that it will only be better for business and for my clientele. So, thanks for reading, for your words of encouragement when I see you and for continuing to email russtattoos@gmail.com for any tattoo related inquiries. Love you guys and am so thankful for a platform to share this and know that I have support and understanding. Be well...see you in July! ✌🏽

- Today marks 4 years of being a licensed tattooer! The first pic is of me setting up for one of the first tattoos I ever did! 😬 In the 2nd picture, the conversation and start to my apprenticeship is shown, which happened 5 years ago. Thank you to @ianwhitetattoos (& @ladylindsaywhite ) for providing me with an apprenticeship and for helping facilitate a career in tattooing for me. Thank you to all those who are tagged (& MANY others) who let me practice on ya in the very beginning & to @nashvillestrengthcompany (formally Life Fitness Academy) for being so flexible, supportive and understanding during my apprenticeship (love ya Terry!) Thank you to @mikeparsonsink for originally encouraging me to give tattooing a shot. As always, thank you to @timmy_b_413 , @vicback & @danpemble for always being willing to help guide and critique my design(s), technique and application. Thanks to all of the @safehousetattoo crew that I had the pleasure to start my career with ( @ianwhitetattoos @timsenatattoo @elcapitan2phones @zanependergast @elidraughntattoos @chipperharbin ) ; thank you to all the guys @graceandglorytattoos for being the perfect coworkers during a major transition period ( @willcampbellart @danielhughestattoos @jakethetattooer @dan_the_man1960 ) & thanks to all of you who support me at @thequilltattoo & helped get it started! I truly love what I do and could not provide for my family without your trust, business and constant encouragement. Most importantly, thank you to my wife @ohjustdandy , for always believing in me (even when I don't believe in myself) & truly being my rock. Ultimately, we both hope that you all see a glimpse of Christ through the fumbling efforts of our creative endeavors...here's to many more years to come!

- I don't know how I could be more proud of this dude. As summer is now officially underway; Jill & I are blown away at Addison's academic ability, the growth we have seen in him both physically and emotionally...but, most importantly, this kid has grown to be socially so loving, caring and kind to those around him. I am also so thankful for @nashvilleclassical , @charliefriedman and the entire staff; for being way more than just educators...the men & women of NCCS are truly grateful for their ever evolving roles and challenges...& it shows...day in and day out. I can only imagine how difficult their jobs are. Thank you for caring for our kids so well! Now, bring on 2nd grade!!! . . . #addisonnolanhickman #summer2017 #nashvilleclassicalcharterschool #russellsprouts
