- My first act of courage. Sometimes I don't show all my best work. Sometimes I'm afraid to put it out there and I hoard it for my end of the year calendar. Usually I take my own photos but this one is by Bonnie Chan @bonsunny . She totally understands my flowers and knows how to present it in the best way. My style is different. It often reflects the wildflower fields that I walk through, climbing vines in Europe and country roads, and private gardens. It is not often perfect tight rounds, it can be imperfect. Some describe my work as rustic. For me it evokes a feeling of being outside, being in the countryside, reflecting nature, full of abundance. As an act of courage I embrace my style and practice putting my stuff out there! I am an artist and my medium are flowers! This arrangement was made for a July bride and has three different types of hydrangeas, larkspur, scabiosa, roses, lisianthus, bachelor button, homegrown cosmos, foxgloves, mint, and honeysuckle, eucalyptus, and olive greenery. Everything in this bunch is locally grown by @ruvalcabaflowers foraged or from my own garden! I added the gallardia at the end for some pop and contrast. If you want to order my calendar msg me. #localflowers #somethingdifferent #underthefloralspell #morganhillflorist #freelancefloraldesigner #bayareaflorist #hydrangeas #gallardia #bridalbouquet #2018calendar

- When we made this at the #ponderosaworkshop in Vancouver with @ponderosa_and_thyme, we first took apart our favorite flower and striped it to its nub as we listened to Katie's story of how she got to where she is at now. She described the struggles and hardships that ended up leading her to her art. A lot of emotions welled up as I listened to her story as it echoed the struggles I've had. As the flower was stripped, I began to feel a letting go of those struggles. We ended the evening by sliding through this bed of flowers that we had painstakingly made, yet feeling much exhilaration, letting go of our fears and embracing the art of who we are. She shared that the word thyme meant courage. I also have that word as the name of my company, although I didn't know its deeper meaning. I'm going to embrace courage now and in the coming year. Workshop details: @ponderosa_and_thyme #ponderosaworkshop Workshop assistants: @kayefleur @sarah_at_work @studio_floretta Event planning: @jevents.planning.design Photography: @david_dufeal @hongcinema @hongphotography Calligraphy: @hellomaurelle

- The weather's taken a colder turn today. But cold or rainy there's always something lovely to take note of. The days I got to travel this year to Yosemite and Vancouver/Victoria were all rainy days but still some of my best moments! So any day is a good day to get out. This is Beacon Hill in Victoria from a few weeks ago. I saw this giant blue heron in the rain and it didn't move at all when I got close. Scroll left to see the heron and more from this beautiful park. This is what I do to re-center and be meditative, I go outside and enjoy what God has made and am refreshed and renewed by it. #Victoria #Beaconhill #rainytravels #wintertravels #falldays

- Beautiful senior! I just took photos of this family a year ago and they asked me to take some again this year because their lovely daughter was going away to college. What a privilege it was to do that! It made me pause and think as my son is also going to college next year. I considered all the different phases we went through as mom and son, ebbing and flowing as the seasons changed and in the different stages of life. So for this one lady, I am excited to see what you will do as I know it will be awesome. Sometimes I'm not sure who I am, a florist, a photographer or what. But at the end of the day I realize I am a creative. I love working with all kinds of creative mediums especially photography and florals, but I also love painting. While never formally trained in the arts, as a kid I played outside for hours on end, playing in a tree that my parents cut down, hiding behind the rows of bamboo, tasting the old plum tree, running in the rain, and reaching for the neighbors lilac or apples. These experiences put an innate love for the outdoors and a tactile love for textures and light and I feel that is reflected in my work. #seniorportraits #friendsforlife #goldenhour #morganhillphotographer #morganhillviews #wildroseandthyme

- Dreamy night! Flowering is not just about making a beautiful arrangement. It's the story of how we got here and how we express that in our art, through flowers. I was a political economist who studied how the world turned. When I had children I let that piece of me die and I mourned that for a long time. But had it not been for letting that go, I never would have tapped into my creative side. While I never had any formal training in plants or flowering, I did touch it when I was in high school and college, making boutonnières and corsages and bouquets for family weddings out of garden flowers. Then there was quiet as I had my children, 4 of them over a span of 10 years! I had a hard time staying home, so I poured myself into gardening, something I had never done and something my parents never did. But the garden blossomed and I even opened a gardening business for a bit! It was after having 4 kids when Isabelle was still a baby that I began tapping into designing flowers again, as close friends and family got married and trusted me with their flowers. Having also roamed the countryside in Europe and hiking the hills in my current home town made me a lover of wild flowers and nature as inspirations for my flowering. All our past experiences even the ones that we mourn are the very experiences that bring us to where we are today. I would have never been a creative had I pursued a political career, I understand now that life is a journey and every experience negative or positive becomes seeds of who we are today and the journey continues. I can open up now because Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme opened up. I can share now because she spoke. There's so much power in speaking. - #ponderosa_and_thyme_workshop I have been reflecting on the this day in my workshop with Katie @ponderosa_and_thyme. She taught me more than flowering. Her journey to become a floral designer and leader in the industry was due to many set-backs in life experiences which she channeled into gardening and design and and through these same set-backs gave her the skills to teach and even through major losses, the ability to listen to the voice within her, her intuition. She gave us permission to be who we are and follow that voice within us whether it is a dream or how we design. I also picked up a few photography skills too from @david_dufeal whom I can't wait to see the film! I love your gentle soul! I made lots of new friends who share this same passion and dream! #ponderosaworkshop #flowerfriends #itsajourney #wildroseandthyme Also @jevents.planning.design for such a beautiful setting for us to enjoy and grow and be nourished. @hongphotography @hongcinema can't wait to see the pro videos and photos! @sarah_at_work and @kayefleur for behind the scenes @hellomaurelle for calligraphy @pipeshop_venue

- I have to say something about this team! @chefjose831 Jose and Margie @mrsmargiestar made the most amazing food, such wonders as apple brie crostini with a cantaloupe and strawberry chutney and avocado hummus on pita! So glad to have you as our catering partner. And to Cristina @hermosaweddingsandevents your focus and drive and this beautiful set-up has spurred us all on together and make us a stronger team! We also had a creative set-up with beautiful colors, free flowing flowers, and seasonal flavors; it made us unique in a world of white and circle bouquets and mundane food. The past few years I've been going along doing things myself with help here and there but it has only been recently that I've partnered up with others. And the realization is that it makes us stronger as a team rather than separate individuals. We each have something to add to each other's creativity and makes for a complete team. I am so glad to be part of it! @hermosaweddingsandevents Wedding and Events Planning and Design @chefjose831 and @mrsmargiestar Caterer @wildroseandthyme Floral design @fitzplace Venue

- It was a fabulous experience @fitzplace with our booth that received accolades from all our guests. The best food curtesy of @chefjose831 and @mrsmargiestar . Their clams and linguine, along with apple brie crostini, and mini almond raspberry cupcakes were my favorites. @hermosaweddingsandevents smashed it out of the ballpark with her drapery design and table set-up and I provided at the floral set-up and design.
