You can tell how much I love the books in the little box by their battered spines. I found this old Chronicles of Narnia set while I was visiting my parents this weekend. These were the actual books that made me fall in love with reading and writing. I read The Magician's Nephew first, because I liked that it had a picture of a girl with long green hair on the cover. I remember having a difficult time understanding the book but loving it all the same because it was full of danger and magic and when I read it I felt as if I was being transported to another world. I still love all those things, which is one of the reasons I write fantasy. So what about all of you--what book/books made you fall in love with reading or writing? P.S. I also love the books stacked behind my beloved Chronicles!

  • @stephanie_garber : @mrs.erinsummerill yes!! My favorite thing about it is that all the books are priced at $3.50 πŸ˜‚

  • @stephanie_garber : @arathi3000 yay and yay! They are such brilliant books!

  • @stephanie_garber : @islandgirl_reads I still need to read Dianne Wynne Jones!

  • @gabmorales19 : I haven't read them yet, but I got a boxed set of collectors editions for Christmas. ❀

  • @rachelgreenlaw_ : @stephanie_garber 😱 you are in for such a treat!! Try the chrestomanci books and howls moving castle, her world building is sensational

  • @monicachay : Harry Potter, of course. Younger me also loved the Boxcar children series.

  • @bibliohannah : Oh my goodness yes!! My family has had the same set. My mom would read them to us growing up and I've loved them ever since. The Horse and His Boy is my absolute favoriteπŸ’š

  • @goldnlief : I went through a bit if a reading dry spell in school, and the books that made me fall in love with reading again were Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicle books. I can't wait for the third one!

  • @lyseofllyr : This is the set we had! This series was an early favorite, but The Little Princess was the first I remember loving.

  • @saraharmstrong493 : Caraval made me remember why I fell in love with reading in the first place Thank you so much for writing it @stephanie_garber

  • @melodywrites : I also read the Magician's Nephew first!

  • @fiona.murphy314 : I was a Harry Potter child, but I also liked Roald Dahl growing up, and could probably credit Matilda with my interest in books!

  • @old.enough.for.fairytales : The Narnia books are the reasons I started reading too! 😊 My dad read them to me every night before I went to sleep when I was in elementary school, and I've been a reader ever since. These books will always be my favorites πŸ’œ

  • @banjoesandbuttons : @stephanie_garber Omigosh! Jellicoe Road!!! I've been begging my friends for years to read it so I could talk to one of them about it. It's one of those "life-changing" books. I have 3 copies from different cities/bookstores I visit. Always on the look out haha

  • @barbrolbs : I read a lot of horsebooks when I was young, and I remember sitting up late at night in my bed until I fell asleep with a book in my hands. My mom read harry potter and lord of the rings out loud to my older sister and I always sat there listening with her, those nights were the bestπŸ˜ƒ

  • @kharrington10 : At first Nancy Drew and then it was Harry Potter. Both of them opened my interest in the mystery and the magical. Two of favorite Genres.😊

  • @sneaky_monkee : Tuck Everlasting. I can pinpoint my love of stories back to the Literature Experience program at my elementary school and specifically this book that we read.

  • @zohra.zen : Exactly the same, but I read The Horse and His Boy first because the first two had been taken out of the library already. It ended up being my favourite Narnia book, I think because it's the only one that's set solely in Narnia. I then begged my mum to buy me the entire set, which she surprised me with on my 11th birthday and I still have them. Those books were awesome 😁

  • @staceyleeauthor : My faves too (my set is just as 'loved')

  • @rachelgoodman99 : Narnia was the series that made me fall in love with reading, too! I have them all in one big book, and it's been read so many times that it's falling apart a little bit.

  • @ms_digne : Yeah! And they are in the right order too! (No one should start these books with The Magician's nephew first)

  • @lejazzhotbaby : I've only ever read the first Narnia book way back in primary school. I should read them all. But you love Poison Study too? Such great books 😍

  • @sugarsnapbree : Narnia was my first love, too! My mom read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe to me at bedtime. I used to tell people I was named after Breehy-hinny-brinny-hoohy-hah. :)

  • @lydiapond : Ah these books are my favorite!! πŸ’œ

  • @abbo.goodness : The Hunger Games was the first book that I was so trapped in that I could barely put it down. It was magical for me and made me want to read. It was an adventure. I still try to find books that capture me so much that I can get lost in them.

  • @lunamarshay : My father always talks about how he would read me The Hobbit, specially the chapter Barrels out of Bond. I asked for that one many many times. I must have been two or three. Additionally, Narnia came soon after that, The Horse and His Boy being my favourite. I was hooked, and haven't looked back.

  • @aimyy_oo : I always read books from young age but our local library didn't have much of a collection, it was really years after that when I read Fallen by Lauren Kate that I actually fell in love with reading. Reading transports me to new world and new places. Its a life saver for me. Caraval trapped me in its world, it was so well written. I couldn't stop talking about it for days.
