As much as they keep insisting they are working on posture and "releasing" tension, something much worse is happening... They are disconnecting us from our biological foundations. I have said before and I'll say it again. Humans did not adapt their muscles with the tempos and force vectors found in yoga. Even in it's best scenarios, yoga does not hit gait biorhythms. It's never been close. Thousands of years ago, humans did not have access to slow motion video. Nor did they have access to watch guys like barry sanders or usain bolt run in slow motion. Yogis were never meant to solve this problem. They were limited by the frames per second that they witnessed reality. It really is a bummer. So many people go into yoga with the intention of personal improvement. It's too bad the millions seeking this improvement are sold ideas that do not relate to improvement. The mind and body can't be separated. Meaning that if you seek to be spiritual (connect to nature), your body has to be intact in order to make that connection. Yoga makes this disconnect and it's why all these writers are forced to write articles like these now. - Winter Blues got you down? Sometimes, a few drops of vitamin D feel like tiny drops in the bucket next to the dark, cold blanket that bookends each day of winter. Am I right? Your alarm goes off, it's pitch black outside. The air is cold and you know you have a mound of snow waiting to be brushed off of your car. If you're anything like me, you'd rather cash in the money set aside for snow tires for a plane ticket to continue chasing summer. I love being Canadian. And wouldn't have it any other way. That being said, I have never been able to warm up to the idea of Winter. So, how do we non-winter-loving folks adapt, if chasing summer is not an option? Hibernation? Only if you want to intensify the feelings of depression and isolation. ~ Here is a list of 9 things I have found helpful in allowing me to survive the winter months: 1) Hot Yoga. No explanation needed. 2) Cozy, warm beverage rituals, such as: making a pot of healthy, hot cocoa and enjoying a cuppa by the fire, while reading a book or watching a show after work. 3) Take advantage of the sunny days. Go for a walk. Stand outside for even a few moments. Soak in that natural vitamin D! 4) Stay connected with people in cozy places. If you don't feel drawn to going out for a fancy dinner, suggest a gathering with tea and blankets, in the comfort of your own home. 5) Epsom salt baths. They will warm you up from the inside-out, while also removing toxins and negative energies that have built up over the days. Throw in some uplifting essential oils while you're at it! 6) Practice gratitude: Be grateful for all that you have around you to keep you safe, warm, and sheltered throughout the winter months- luxuries, even basic essentials, that some individuals do not have access to. 7) Practice Mindfulness to cultivate present-moment awareness, and avoid thinking about how many days, months, snowfalls or dark mornings are left of this season. 8) Make movement a priority. Find small ways throughout the day to get some movement in. We've all heard by now that movement helps with depression. 9) Surround yourself with energy-replenishing people, places, activities, and foods that bring you joy and light! ❄️💕🌅
