- Yesterday was a stunning day in Mt Maunganui... I met a new friend called John. He's 55, he recently sold his business and is in between jobs. He emailed me out of the blue for a coffee, so I went. It went well so I invited him out for a body surf that afternoon. He brought fins. I didn't. He said he was going out the back, so I decided to go too... I've never really been body surfing out the back, especially with no fins. I spent 40 minutes out there, happily chatting, treading water and unable to catch most of the waves because I didn't have fins and couldn't push off the bottom. But there I was... doing something I'd never done before because I wasn't sure I could. All I needed was a little push. Now my limits have been extended. I now know I can go further than before. So the question is, why didn't I go out there before? Why do we always put such arbitrary limits on ourselves?
