Instagram photo by theswedishflickaHere we have a Swedish Selma! What is a Swedish Semla? Well it looks like a pastry hamburger to start....
But actually the Semla is a cardamom spiced wheat bun with its top cut off AND filled with almond paste AND topped with whipped cream. The cut off top is then replaced on top of the cream and the bun or Semla is dusted with powdered sugar. This is the time of year when you are most likely to eat Semla if you are enjoying the famous Swedish FIKA!
▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃ So you might realize by now that he Swedish Semla is a serious thing in Sweden. Besides the cinnamon roll, it is probably the most loved and eaten pastry in Sweden. The difference is that the cinnamon roll is eaten year round. The semla on the other hand is eaten during winter. An annual day to be sure with all that whip cream! So off I go then, to find a bakery here in Maine that makes these delicious Swedish Desserts! Thank you @charlesdepalm
