- #harlandandwolff is a #northernirish #industrial company in shipbuilding and offshore construction, located in #belfast #northernireland . It was formed in 1861 by Edward James Harland (1831–1895) and Hamburg-born Gustav Wilhelm Wolff. In 1858 Harland bought the small #shipyard on Queen's island and since then it has built many ships. Among the more famous are the White Star trio RMS #olympic , RMS #titanic and Britannic and the Royal Navy's #hmsbelfast . #samsonandgoliath are the twin shipbuilding gantry #cranes . They were named after the Biblical figures, dominate the Belfast #skyline and are #landmarks of the #city . Goliath was completed in 1969 and Samson, slightly further inland, in 1974. Goliath stands 96 metres (315 ft) tall, while Samson is taller at 106 metres (348 ft). I like this angle as it gives you an idea of how big these cranes actually are! Below it you can see the spire of a church and a floodlight of a football stadium - both dwarfed by the #crane #norniron #ulster #discoverni #instablog #instagreat #instablogger #instagood #ig_masterpiece #cityexplore #exploretocreate #urbanromantix #lovebelfast #visitbelfast #industrialdesign #architecture
