- #12DaysofChristmasFitnessChallenge #12DaysofFitnessChallenge Day 7- On the 7th Day of Fitness, this challenge gave to me... ‘Seven Swans A-Swimming’ Best. Day. Ever. However, it started with tears. Happy tears. Let me rewind. So, yesterday my physiotherapist told me to bend forward from the waist and I couldn’t do it. Actually, I could do it, what I meant was, I was scared to do it. I’ve been stiff and upright for the last 8 weeks, so bending over seems a bit foreign. But after a little coaxing and coaching from Marni I cautiously bent forward about 45 degrees. And then it happened, I started to tear up. You see I haven’t been able to bend forward since October 10th without bits of my spine popping out. Yesterday was a huge milestone. When todays challenge came around and I thought about doing a yoga Swan Pose, my first thought was that maybe just I’d do the half pose without having to bend forward. However this is a challenge and what is a challenge without some element of risk? Why not dive in (pun intended) and try doing the full pose? Well I did, and I did. Uh oh...then came the real tears. Full out bawling. Cried like a girl I did. I can bend y’all, I can BEND. Happy tears. Happy Day. Later I went to the Therapy Pool, not to swim, just to do some light stretches and relax in the bubbles. Ahhhh.... The beverage is called Watermelon Ice. Frozen Watermelon pieces, with cilantro, lime and sparkling water. Tres refreshing. Calories? I dunno...like around 5? Does it even matter? I’m celebrating So off with the back brace and I’m going to get reacquainted with some folk I haven’t seen in a while. - 🎯 ONE POINT OPENING IT ALL 🎯 {En} Okay, here's my favourite alignment cue I rediscovered in the past months: threading the sitbone of the rear hip back into the body. Like a thread into the needle and up your spine. Use the deep muscles (not glutes!) first, then you can add a little glute tightening if you wish. Try it in any kind of splits-like posture. . I saw Mr. Iyengar teach this in a Warrior I many years ago and it came back to me recently. . Can you feel how your spine shoots up? Freeing your lungs, your shoulders, your neck? Such a genius little move! ... Hehe ...
