- Handling some really tough premasters in the mastering lab today. Sometimes you're sent songs by young producers, and there are a lot of things in their mixes that's going to make you either 1) ask the producer to fix things, or 2) pull out every trick in your bag. And often both. But I like a good challenge. I love seeing how far I can take it, and most of the time you just want to develop your skills anyways, and that's best to do with some really damn challenging material. However, as an engineer you also need to know when it's best to say some things you just cannot fix. I think the perfect, ideal balance is always about open communication between the engineer and the producer. I've never been the type of engineer who masters every song, no matter what, without asking the producer to change things, then asks for revisions for every change the producer asks for. I don't charge for suggestions for mixdown changes, and hardly ever for revisions. I'd rather work with the producer and suggest changes in the mix to achieve an optimal final result. PS: I'm working on the last projects of the year, and cannot fit in much more for 2017, and I'll be taking a well-deserved 2-3 weeks off in early Jan…it's been my most intense work year yet. Still, don't hesitate to get in touch – we'll sure enough work like no tomorrow in 2018, too. • • • • • • • • • • • • • #mixing #mastering #bassmusic #dnb #drumandbass #drumnbass #beats #studiolife #engineer #audioengineer #audioengineering #engineering #audio #music #picoftheday #masteringengineer #mixingengineer #2018 #universalaudio #uad #analog
