Each generation interacts with social media in different ways, so it’s important to know who you’re targeting.
Citipost Mail have being doing research and have come up with some interesting insights into what each generation tends to favor when it comes to content. 
Generation Z – Born 1996 – 2010 
Fact: You have just 8 second to engage with Generation Z on social media.
Advice: Hit their news feed when they wake up and when they’ve finished school/college 
Millennials – Born 1977 – 1995 
Fact: 34% will turn to social media when making purchasing decision.
Advice: Facebook is their favoured social network with 87% signed up. The key to successfully marketing to Millennials is to focus on influence rather than being direct. 
Generation X – Born 1965 – 1976 
Fact: Prefer to access social media content between 8PM and midnight.
Advice: Use visually engaging and vibrant video based content. 
Baby Boomers – Born 1946 – 1964 
Fact: Boomers are 38% more likely to interact with a poll or questionnaire than other generations.
Advice: Use interactive content such as quizzes to encourage them to get involved. When it comes to communicating with a business, a massive 95% of Baby Boomers will opt for email over live chats. Encouraging newsletter signups will increase interaction with your business and help build awareness.
