- Today, on my last full day in South Africa, I completed something I would never have imagined even attempting. I am now a qualified open water diver. I have always been petrified of the sea & what lives in it, and even at the beginning of the week, I was refusing to simply go on the boat whilst everyone dived. But then soon went from being coaxed into snorkelling & seeing a manta ray within minutes, which I believe divers wish to see for years & still don't succeed in doing so. After seeing such a sighting & being told how lucky I was to see it, I started to wonder what else I was missing out on. What then started as "let's go in the pool & test how it feels to breathe underwater" to now being sat here after 48 hours of grafting, a hell of a lot of salty baths & coming face to face with my biggest fear - sharks - I can now confidently say I utterly stared my fears in its face & gave it the middle finger. It still hasn't hit me, but achieving this has put a surge of confidence in myself & helped me to believe in myself more, & also prove to my new South African friends that us English birds can be tough cookies. Thank you thank you thank you to the people who have believed in me & pushed me that extra step I never believed I would even dip a toe into. Mia & Nicho in particular, I owe you so much, words can not explain. #believeinyourself #scuba #diver #openwater #fears #beautiful #sealife #love #explore #southafrica #amazing
