- Today is International Handstand Day. This position is what got me interested in bodyweight training and Yoga. In the beginning of my handstand journey, my purpose was to learn something I thought looked cool and impressive. At first, I had no balance whatsoever. I practiced excessively every single day and fell literally thousands of times. During this time, the thought of being able to hold the handstand more than a few short seconds seemed nearly impossible for me. I held a common idea of this century: That "once I can do this I’d be happy". I did held my first handstand for 2 seconds, then 5 seconds, 10 seconds, a minute and so on. Did I got happy? Hell yeah I did! I screamed like a little child filled with joy! Did it last for long? Of course not. I wanted more as we always do. But, Am I happy now? Yes, I certainly am; Not because I have achieved a handstand (which is far from perfect), but because over the years I’ve learned to be grateful and happy in every moment of my practice. I’ve learned that as we arrive somewhere, we want to depart to somewhere else; so the idea that any destination other than this exact and precise moment is the location of happiness is like running on a rat wheel, an enormous endless and misguided illusion. This is the first of many lessons I have learned learn through the journey of obtaining my handstand. Now for me, the handstand is much more than a physical pose; its a tool that work as an opportunity for self-growth, self-discovery, self-assessment and self-growth. It shows me how I feel at any given moment; how connected I feel, how much I am worrying, how disturbed or peaceful my mind is, but more than anything, how present and in the moment I am. Hand balancing in short, is for me the place where I can shut out the external noises and truly look deeply inward, a place where my ego dissolves and I can just be there with it all, without defining, judging or attaching to anything. 🙏 💫And you, what has handstands or any other skill in general has taught you so far? 💫 #InternationalHandstandDay
