Due to the weather warnings we completely changed our plans and now I’m wondering if I have chooses the right day to take the kids to the pumpkin festival at Castle Ward? . . . . . . . #mountstewart #mountstewartgardens #mountstewarthouse #blueskies #dreamingofblueskies #notlikingthiswinterweather #plants #nature #nationaltrustni #nationaltrustproperty #discoverni #northernireland #niblogger

- Mount Stewart in Co. Down was begun by the Marquess of Londonderry in 1771.This part of the house was not completed until 1783, while the work was being undertaken, the family and their guests made do with a network of cottages nearer the coast. It was in the 1820’s when the house was extensively extended which included a vast entrance hall. To the exterior was added a giant portico with four gigantic Ionic columns which formed part of an extensive eleven bay entrance front. The  architect for these improvements was William Vitruvius Morrison and he had designed a large classical mansion that befitted the family’s vast wealth. Despite being a very large and grand house, the Marchioness of Londonderry would nonchalantly refer to Mount Stewart as ‘the villa by the sea’. #countryhouse #northernireland #down #mountstewart #architecture #classical #mansion #portico #columns
