- This week, I'm covering every member that an artist, writer, or producer needs to have on their business team. I'll be touching on one team member everyday. 📃 Entertainment lawyers (or attorneys) are legal service providers who represent professionals in the entertainment business including: actors, musicians, producere, writers, engineers; etc.). They can work on either the litigation or transactional side. Litigation attorneys file and/or defend lawsuits on the behalf of individuals in the entertainment business; while transactional attorneys handle the paperwork (contracts, registrations, business deals; etc.) 📃 In my opinion, there are two types of transactional entertainment attorneys: (1) those who simply review and draft whatever contract you ask them to, with no regard to the big picture; it's simply a "transaction" to them. (2) those who look at each transaction as a building block to the business enterprise that their client is building. The second is what we, at 'Ayeni Law', focus on because at the end of the day, and in this day and age, you're losing if you're not building independence. 📃 An entertainment lawyer is a vital piece of an artist, writer, or producers business team; but the truth is that there are a few things people pay entertainment attorneys for that they could do themselves. It simply comes down to the time and effort that you are willing to invest in learning how to do those things. On the other hand, multi-million and multi-billion dollar entertainment companies don't make any decision without consulting their own attorney's so artists need to be very careful that they don't go into something that they have no idea about. It's cheaper to pay an attorney on the front end, than to pay them to get you out of a mess on the back end. 📃 "I got a lawyer for the case to keep what's in my safe, safe" - Kanye West 😉👌 . . #musicbusiness #musicindustry #recordlabel #recordingstudio #recorddeal #edm #rapper #producer #chh #hiphop #pop #popmusic #rap #beats #beat #360deal #royalty #royalties #publishing #copyright #indiemusic #independentartist #musician #producer #engineer #mixer #mixing #songwriter
