- It’s the end of another Monday! Only two more Mondays in 2017! Today is day 19 of #rwrunstreak so I got in 1 mile @ 7:54 and did my longest plank (1:25) for day 13 of planking everyday. My picture is inspired by my favorite yogi runner @thecookierunner, I basically want to recreate every picture and every posture she posts. I enjoyed a dance party/play time on my mat. Thank goodness timelapse takes away a bit of the awkwardness in my dancing. πŸ˜† I hope you had a fabulous Monday. Don’t worry if it wasn’t because tomorrow is a new day!

- The JOY of crossing the finish line. βž– California International Marathon Race Recap coming at you in a VERY lengthily ramble- you have been warned 😬😳. βž– I have been trying to write a recap for a full week and have had a hard time getting my thoughts down. I decided to break the race into 3 parts- 5 Things That Went Wrong, 5 Lessons Learned and 5 Memorable Moments. I will start with the negatives and work my way to the good stuff. βž– 5 Things That Went Wrong 1️⃣I took my sweet time during my warm up and didn't start heading to the start line until 6:50. By the time the gun went off I had only worked myself halfway through the crowd. This meant an awkward first mile bobbing and weaving through runners who were not my pace. Right before mile 1 I found the 3:07 pace group. I started 45 seconds back from the start so that meant that I ran my first mile WAY too fast, which brings me to number 2. 2️⃣My Garmin wasn't working. As I was trying to work my way to either the 3:07 or 3:12 pace group (never saw the 3:12 group), my watch said I was running an 8:40 mile. I knew this wasn't the case but when I found the 3:07 group right before mile 1 that means I ran around a 6:20 first mile. That is a bad way for a 7:10 marathoner to start a race. Since I started so far back and was so focused on getting to getting to where I wanted to be, I ran a very stupid first mile and didn't pay enough attention to my pace. It truly didn't feel fast but nonetheless I ran too fast. When I saw the mile 1 clock my heart dropped. Whoops. My Garmin still wasn't working so I restarted it and it was still all over the place. At this point I ignored my watch for the rest of the race and tried to run by feel. 3. TMI on # 3 but I don't care. I had some bad luck and started my monthly cycle 10 days late (which has literally never happened to me ever). This meant that my heaviest day felt on the marathon and I had bad cramps during the entire race. Stupid TOM, (Time Of the Month), I really don't like TOM. {Continued in comments bellow}.

- #medalmonday #earnednotgiven what a race! Only it's second year, but organizers did a fantastic job with this race! My finish time was 4:12:35. Much faster than I ever expected (only 9 minutes off PR)! Now for a "quick" recap. . . Race was point to point. I don't care for them, but only way to do it and run along the beach. So we bussed to start line. I got to meet Tina, one of my IG friends. Was a true pleasure talking to her before we started. . . Inserted myself between the 4:15 and 4:30 pace group. Figure i would like lose both of them as the race wore on. At the early point of the race I was deciding on a pace. I kept hearing interesting talk from the 15 or so folks in the 4:15 group, so decided to stick with them as long as I could. I actually found the pace sustainable, so it encouraged me. . . The sun was rising in the direction we ran. So glad I brought sun glasses. The chapstick and Kleenex I brought got used too. πŸ˜‚ As the miles wore on, the 4:15 group started to thin. At the halfway point, there were only 6 or so left. As we reached around 18 miles, the group just became me and the pacer, Rob. We conversed less and less as fatigue set in. . . I didn't hit a physical wall until mile 22. I managed to push myself until mile 23, but pace inevitably slowed. Rob kept his pace and the last tag along (me) faded. 😒 Even worse, unknown to me, mile 24 was a cruel bridge we had to climb up. It was every bit of a mile incline. Rob never got out of sight, but I just couldn't catch back up. . . I was relieved to be off the bridge and turning to the stadium. Mile 26 came up and there was Rob. I asked why he stopped and he said he got carried away at the end and we were WAY ahead of 4:15. Hence my 4:12:35 finish time! . . #run #justrun #running #halffanaticsΒ  #nike #stampycer #halfmarathon #marathon #halfmarathontraining #marathontraining #nikeplus #marathonic #training #fitness #runnersworld #fit #exercise #marathonmaniacs #runningcommunity #SAH #halffanatics #garmin #run1000mileschallenge #1000milesrunclub #fitover40 #oldguyrunningtransformer
