For all those adventurous, eager people thinking of joining the yachting industry, but don’t know what to do or where to begin, we have listed 5 top tips to help you get started! With the Caribbean season fast approaching and boat shows underway, now is the perfect time! Here we go: Tip 1) Education: Make sure you get the minimum requirements to work on a yacht which are: STCW10 - Basic Safety Certificate and ENG1 medical certificate. Without these two, you will not be considered for work. To improve your chances and if you are able, take extra courses to better qualify yourself for your preferred position i.e., Silver service course for stewardesses or Powerboat license for deckhands. A very important aspect too is your CV. Make sure you create an attractive looking CV based on the yachting industry standards. Tip 2) Location, Location, and Location: Especially if you are new to the industry, it is highly recommended to fly over to the Caribbean or the Mediterranean during the respective peak seasons. This is important as most boats will be in the area meaning there will be lots of chances to get some day work (temporary work on yachts) which will give you the much needed experience and get your foot onto your first yacht.
