- A well executed barbell back squat with a decent weight is a fantastic sight to behold but the truth is, you don't HAVE to do this movement to build yourself an impressive set of pins If for whatever reason you can't/dont want to back squat, give some of these alternatives a crack . ๐Ÿ”ธBOX SQUAT . This is essentially where you perform a traditional back squat to a box (or bench). This one is great for building confidence with a bar on your back as you can choose the height of your box and slowly increase your ROM (range of motion) over time โฐ . ๐Ÿ”ธ SPLIT SQUAT . A great motion for the newbies to introducing you to the basic mechanics of a squat as well as being loaded unilaterally. (Single leg). You can progress this by elevating your rear foot as shown in the picture . ๐Ÿ”ธ GOBLET SQUAT . Another good one for beginners, the motion is made easier the load being in front of you and will generally allow you to achieve a greater depth then when loaded at the back. This one will also teach you to maintain a good thoracic position (rib cage up) โฌ†๏ธ . ๐Ÿ”ธ HACK SQUAT . My personal favourite from this list, and probably the best for people with lower back issues ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ due to how the machine 'supports' you whilst using it.
