- Put "maybe" in the corner. I have a pattern. It is a tendency to say yes to things when I mean maybe and maybe when I mean no. Can you relate? I can find myself in a state of overwhelm and overcommitted and because of this, I lose focus on the things I actually want to accomplish. I have strengthened this pattern over the years and weakening it has become a challenge. Learning to listen to my intuition and pause before I make a decision has given me access to more power in my life. I always thought saying yes was a good thing, taking on more and more, yet if I am not 100% behind what I am taking on, then what is the point? It just leaves me drained and resentful, blaming outside forces for my current state, when in reality, owning my commitments is my responsibility. Getting caught up with the idea of doing it all and fear of missing out on something else can fuel this pattern and in the end leaves you a jack of all trades, master of none. What if we took a breath before committing and really trusted our intuition before reactively responding? What if we begin to say yes when we mean yes and no when we mean no? What if we eliminated "maybe" from our vocabulary all together? How much space would this give us to focus on the things in our lives that really matter? #newblogpostup #lastminutelauren #putmaybeinthecorner #meanwhatyousay #hellyes #itseemstomethatmaybeprettymuchalwaysmeansno #coachlife #saddleshoes #rubikscube #ilovethe80s #nooneputsbabyinthecorner

- Chapter 24 The concert - 6 Aug 1982 Michael lifted his tuba into position, his eyes darting all over his sheet music, trying to remind himself of the notes. Why didn't he choose the scouts, the npcc, the red cross or even the debating team?! Then he remembered: he hated camping, drills, blood and arguing. The band seemed to be the ideal option at that point in time. He liked the idea of wielding an electric guitar like Simon LeBon or even banging on the drums like Phil Collins. Girls liked that kind of thing. But the band mistress took one look at him and relegated him to the wind section. It was so unfair. Why did they think that chubby kids can only do wind instruments? Alright so he was more than a little chubby but he was only 14! Anything could happen right? He finally allowed himself a quick glance at the audience of fellow students, teachers, parents and alumni - all anticipating this yearly performance by the school band - and immediately regretted it. What if he blew it? What if he played a wrong note or worse, what if his tuba fell from his grip onto the flute players in front and causing them to topple the entire clarinet section?! The band mistress raised her baton. Michael took a deep breath, placed his lips to the mouthpiece, slided his thumb through the ring and readied his fingers on the valves. He kept his eyes on the band mistress and just as her baton flew downwards, he pinched his checks and blew.
