- 🍓🍓🍓 EAT LOCAL AND SEASONAL WHEN POSSIBLE 🍓🍓🍓I have been seeing a proliferation of "fruit order boxes" where tropical fruits (and other fruits) are being shipped all over the world. Sustainability of our planet depends on supporting local, organic farming. Here in Hawaii we have an abundance of fruits 12 months a year, but in many locations that is not possible. I saw a post earlier today about lilikoi (passionfruit) being packaged and sent from Columbia. I've seen Durian and Dragonfruit and coconut mailed all over the world. This is a huge burden on our environment. Obviously most people (especially if not in a tropical climate) cannot source 100% of their food needs locally. But ordering boxes of fruits that get shipped in packaging and on airplanes is not sustainable. Shopping at farmer's markets and other shops where locally grown food is sold, is the best thing you can do for your body and community. 🍓🍓🍓🍓🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

- #Repost: I recently teamed up with @theprehabguys for a blog and video series on RTS following ACL. We hope you like it! #Physio ・・・ ‼️SERIES LAUNCH‼️ Today is the first installment of four hop tests used in return to sport testing following Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction (ACLR). Be sure to tune in all week for the series, with an IG LIVE on Thursday answering YOUR questions and diving into more discussion. You can also find the full article with the complete battery of tests on our website featuring exclusive content by author @MickHughesPhysio . The goal of this test is to jump as far as possible on each leg, aiming to "stick" the landing. The performance goal is to have the recently injured limb within 10% of the uninjured limb. Poor performance on this hop test (greater than 10% difference between limbs) can identify those at risk of re-injury. . 🎥 Highlights . Using technology from force plates, we can appreciate the ground reaction force (GRF) vector during the landing phase of the task. In the top left box of the first video, the vector is medial to the knee. If the vector were to move laterally outside the knee due to compensatory trunk lean or the knee collapsing in, there would be an increased valgus moment on the knee. This position places an increased load on the ACL. Uncontrolled dynamic knee valgus with a high acceleration rate is what ultimately can tear the ACL. #ACL #ACLinjury #sportsinjury __________________________________________________ The Prehab Guys: Optimizing human movement and performance, promoting longevity, and keeping your movement system in tune one post at a time. - This is a great video we found by @nathmoen on knee travel during the squat. It is important to know that everybody’s squat is different. This is mainly due to the differences in anatomical structures from person to person. While some people are able to keep an upright torso without their knees tracking forwards past their toes, for others this is simply not the case. I myself have long femurs in relation to the rest of my body, so have to shift my knees slightly past my toes in order to keep my torso more upright. Yes this does put more pressure on your knees BUT if you have the strength and control for it then it is fine. The type of stance you take and level of mobility you have will also contribute to this. Thoughts? @Regrann from @nathmoen - ❌KNEE TRAVEL IN THE SQUAT✅ - The squat is a fundamental movement in both strength and rehabilitation settings. It is often suggested that the knees should NOT🚫 be allowed to track past the toes in the squat, as it is harmful to internal knee structures, such as the ACL and PCL 🤔 - However, let’s have a look at what happens when you restrict forward knee travel: 1. Increased forward lean of the trunk, which can lead to excessive loading on the hips and lower back. It can also culminate in an improper bar path 🗯 2. Increased lumbar flexion, which can lead to higher pressures upon the intervertebral discs. - On the flipside, if you allow the knees to travel unrestricted, it will allow for a more upright torso and a better position for the lumbar spine. - 👉🏼 Have you been told to restrict your knees from going past your toes❓ - Fun fact: I'm currently doing a critical review of the literature about this. Our findings will be released later this year. 🤓📜 - @powerliftingwomen @pwrlft @pwrlft_community @powerliftingmotivation @workoutmotivationvideos @activewearonline
