Interestingly, the Gayatri mantra was calling to me yesterday. ・・・ An Ayurvedic approach to the solar eclipse: "Eclipses are deemed powerful astrological occurrences, in which one of the luminaries of the sky, the sun or moon, is occluded. The Sun (Surya) represents the soul, spirituality, and vitality in Jyotish. This darkening of the light, exposes the shadow not only of the luminous body, but also of collective and individual consciousness. An eclipse of the sun calls us inward toward the subtle realm. For this reason, rather than gazing at the eclipse, Jyotish recommends using this time to engage in spiritual practice. During the time of the eclipse it is recommended one stay inside and engage in a practice of meditation, and specifically mantra meditation. Surya Gayatri or other mantras to the sun, as well as your own personal mantra are all appropriate practices during this time. As emotions, positive and negative, may be heightened during an eclipse, going inward creates an opportunity to integrate these strong emotions rather than react to them. The shadow nature of an eclipse will make evident the buried, disowned, and suppressed parts of ourselves that are ready to be acknowledged and worked with. - I am a total science nerd, star, sun and moon gazer, so of course I'm photographing today's events...even though I am not in the path of totality. So far I'm getting so pretty good shots, which I'll share later. In the meantime I thought I'd share how I'm shooting. I'm using my Nikon D5500 with lenses set to 225-300mm; 1/4000 shutter speed, f40, ISO 200. I'm also using a tripod and my live view finder. Can't wait to see what others have captured today. I've been speaking with a lot of people about the anguish of situations that are out of their control. Where a decision that someone else has to make would seemingly make their lives "better". My advice is to clean up your side of the street - what else has been stagnant in your life that makes other people's inability to act so paralyzingly for you?
