- What is this cow doing? Well, it’s eating it’s own #placenta. Why would it do this? You might ask. Well, the placenta feeds your baby for however long you have carried your baby until you’ve given birth. The placenta is literally packed with #nutrients and #minerals that you’ve provided for your baby until you’ve given birth. This includes #oxygen as well. Now, animals will eat their placenta because of the nutritional value as well as cleaning up any trace of them having given birth to their #babies because predators will smell the blood and that a new born animal is out and about. This will attack danger and sometimes death to the newborn animal. Now, humans have created a system where almost every animal is afraid of us, but that doesn’t mean they don’t still see our young as a snack if they’re hungry enough. (You know back in the day anyway). Some women will choose to #freeze or #dehydrate their placenta after giving birth for consumption after they’ve given birth. Some seem to think it can prevent #postpartumdepression. Which is often time caused by drastic #hormonal changes. Hormones which are also being fed to the baby from the placenta. Some women will smoothie their placenta and some women dehydrate it and encapsulate it as if they were taking vitamins. It may seem odd, but it really isn’t. It isn’t pleasant to think about, but after giving birth and while you breastfeed, having all those nutrients comes in handy.
