- This was a haunting scene I came across some time back in Sumatra, Indonesia. A rag tag crew of firefighters were trying to put out huge fires that were engulfing swaths of forests and plantations. The asphyxiating fumes shrouded the land in a post apocalyptic smog . . . . . . #dystopia #postapocalyptic #postapocalypse #apocalypse #apocalypsenow #fire #firefighter #forestfire #smog #pollution #fog #haze #fumes #yellow #orange #indonesia #indonesian #riau #pekanbaru #sumatra #fireman #firerescue #plantation #indonesiaparadise #indonesiatraveler #judgementday #blaze #mist #gloom #dark

- Feeling sad πŸ˜” The wildfire situation in BC (the worst in its history) has been on the top of our minds the past couple of months. Over a million hectares of forest has burned in BC this summer. One fire has been burning 30 km east of Nelson for over a month and a half that has left me feeling scared at times. I've walked around the land we live on now thinking about how devastating it would be for all of it to be wiped out, just like that.// In this moment I'm sad because I just read about all of the wildfire damage done over the past 2 weeks to Waterton Lakes National Park. We spent this past August long weekend there with family, it's beautiful there. Unfortunately, 70% of all the trees in the park burned down over the past 2 weeks. 70%! Thankfully, most of the town was spared, but a few homes and outbuildings including the visitor centre were destroyed. I have a heavy heart thinking about all that's been lost, especially having just been there. // However, as @nataliebergh reminded me a few minutes ago, forest fires are natural processes and the regrowth is beautiful in its own way. There are many positives to this type of death actually, in the long term forest fires bring health to the forests and make space for new life. Let's remember this! But also the people and precious wildlife that's been lost all over BC. // I'm even more inspired now to be donating a portion of all sales of my artwork to reforestation efforts in BC. Coming soon! 🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌳🌲🌲🌲🌳 #bcwildfires #forestfire #beautifulbc #watertonlakesnationalpark #reforestation #eileennicolinaart
