- #motivationmonday after getting many messages asking for advice one thing that often comes up is " I can't get motivated how do I motivate myself ?" .. The one thing people either love or hate about me is my directness .. you can't bullshit a bullshitter because believe me I've used every stupid reason in the book in the past not to lose weight " I've got kids " " I'm too heavy to exercise " " I'm tired" " I'm too busy " these were all excuses NOT valid reasons , my four kids ARE the reason to be healthy , I was too heavy to exercise so I thought but everyone can walk or sit on an exercise bike to start , I was tired because I was carrying an extra ten stone around!! no wonder I was shattered 24/7 and I wasn't too busy to sit on my ass and eat shit food was I ? 😉 Harsh but true and when I accepted that I was The only person who could change my life I DID ! Ten stone lost @slimmingworld and kept the weight off for over 5 years , started weight training 3.5 years ago and totally transformed my body , still a work in progress but a happy healthy strong woman who knows that I DID that when I look in the mirror looks back at me now 😁 " I don't sugar coat shit I'm not willy wonka" is a favourite saying of mine 😂 so please take it from me .. don't wait until you think you might be ready , or until your heads in the right place or like I did until your health is so bad you think you might have a heart attack and leave your children motherless 😢 don't be that person because you might just wait too long ☹️ do it today !! Take the first steps towards a happy healthy you , you can do anything if you want to achieve it , get help and support , ask for advice but don't expect a miracle , don't think that excess weight will fall off magically in a few weeks , it took many years of abuse to become morbidly obese so it's taken years of dedicated committed effort to reverse it . Thus, the “best” diet is not necessarily the one you read about in this or that magazine, but the one you’ll actually get done. Eat mostly whole foods, not too much, and chew with your mouth shut. Yes, coffee is fine. -- -- Now no diet, no one way of eating healthy, is ever a breeze. They all take effort. And they are all somewhat of a nuisance in the sense you have to learn to manage compromises. You can’t have your cake and eat it, too, in other words. -- -- Luckily, my intern @alydifitness wrote a great piece on how to failproof your diet. So, I’m borrowing some of her advice, while adding a bit of my own. -- -- First, is a food journal. Nothing could be more clearly obvious so far as success on a diet goes: those who keep track of what they eat, do better than those who don’t. So, if nothing else, start a log—or, if you want, you can call it a diary--of everything you eat. No, really. It’s *totally* cool to call your food log a diary. Nobody’s going to say anything. Why would they? Just go for it. You’re going to see results from this, I promise. -- -- Secondly, is your environment. Don’t go at it alone. Find someone to hold you accountable on one end, and avoid those who constantly try to trip you up on the other. -- -- Another note about environment: Get the junk out of the house, already, will ya? It's time to start putting success in your way. So have healthy foods handy and make it as hard as possible for you to grab hold of something that might derail you. -- -- Convenience increases adherence. So, another thing: Have a supply of go-to-meals, and use templates if you need. My friend @drnadolsky has a million of these. Use them. Take the guess work out, and make it easier on yourself. So, I’m borrowing some of her advice, while adding a bit of my own. -- -- First, is a food journal. Nothing could be more clearly obvious so far as success on a diet goes: those who keep track of what they eat, do better than those who don’t. So, if nothing else, start a log—or, if you want, you can call it a diary--of everything you eat. No, really. It’s *totally* cool to call your food log a diary. Nobody’s going to say anything. Why would they? Just go for it. You’re going to see results from this, I promise. -- -- Secondly, is your environment. Don’t go at it alone. Find someone to hold you accountable on one end, and avoid those who constantly try to trip you up on the other. -- -- Another note about environment: Get the junk out of the house, already, will ya? It's time to start putting success in your way. So have healthy foods handy and make it as hard as possible for you to grab hold of something that might derail you. -- -- Convenience increases adherence. So, another thing: Have a supply of go-to-meals, and use templates if you need. My friend @drnadolsky has a million of these. Use them. Take the guess work out, and make it easier on yourself.
