- New training split this week- and squats are back on a Monday! (@joshua_kuluris !) Today: 4x4 then a 4x2. While squats aren't my strongest lift, I still squat weekly. If you struggle with an exercise your reaction shouldn't be to avoid it, but to work at it until it becomes a strength. So many people swap squats in lieu of the leg press or the smith machine because they can "move more weight". Check your ego. 👌🏻 One of the smartest things I did following my patella injury a few years ago was to re-learn how to squat from the bottom up- perfecting bodyweight and naked barbell squats before even loading weight. I still have lots of room to improve, but my squatting has still progressed ALOT. If you struggle with squats consider the following: _ 1-Think of squatting as sitting down on the toilet. No need to sit back aggressively, just hips down and back 2-Squatting is a total body exercise. Control the movement top to bottom. Engage your whole body by actively pulling your chest up and driving your upper back into the bar. 3-When you squat actively pull the bar down, don't just sink passively under the weight. When you come out of the hole push the ground away hard through your feet and drive your back into the barbell.
