- Whatever you do, don’t stop moving!! 🛑 The wise words from my coach @kreitzquest knowing that I’m traveling for work and don’t have my usual toys and means to train as I do back home. But so far I’m glad to report that I have managed to get them all in, and pretty close to what was prescribed 😉 It’s always fun to get back together with my friends and we’re making the most of it. Today was a workout date with my bff @damarishoeman followed by dinner and a nice chat. - Well, it is official. I have a stress fracture on my right tibia just up from my ankle. Was hoping it was just a bad case of tendinitis. So....no running for a few weeks. I can start on the elliptical Sunday. Hopefully it will heal quickly enough for me to be able to make the @louisianamarathon. If so, will probably not be the time I want. - FORM REMINDERS ⚡️ . I’m running again this week! 😍 Starting back slow & short & letting my body recover from the marathon. With my runs this week- I’m focusing on good form - since I’m running easy & slow anyways- the whole point is to get stronger at holding my posture & strong form even on my recovery days. @tunderface tells me - pretend like you are running a 400- because when I’m running a 400- my form is ON POINT & strong & I feel like a tiger pouncing. That - compared to me at the end of a long workout - where I may look like an old lady on a power walk.🙄🙈 . While we are in December & working on building back up for a STRONG 2018- let’s focus on these form cues: . ⚡️LEAN FORWARD Sounds a little too simple, but you should be falling forward- NOT: leaning backwards, sitting into your stride, and basically putting on the brakes. In fact, it will take more energy to get up speed when I’m essentially fighting moving forward. . ⚡️FOOT FALLS BENEATH YOU Your foot should be falling underneath your body and not reaching forward. Reaching forward, I would basically be heel striking- not ideal; foot falling underneath me helps to propel me forward. . ⚡️ARMS Keeping my arms more relaxed but also a little tighter to my body helps me feel like I’m expending less energy. Towards the end of a run, I would start pumping my arms like crazy (aka flailing around) - I don’t think it would help me speed up- but it would expend a ton more energy and kept my focus off good form and what I needed to be doing- focusing on increasing my cadence and leg energy as I fatigued. The more your arms are moving- the more you waste energy. WHO KNEW??! Haha . ⚡️SMALLER STEPS & MORE OF THEM This is a huge thing. Working on my cadence is helping me improve my form by encouraging me to take smaller steps- i.e. not proving to the world that I have the longest stride ever. . ⚡️HIPS FORWARD If you lean forward by your shoulders, that doesn’t help momentum, but when you lean forward the lean needs to be coming from your HIPS. (Those hips don’t lie, girl!) @tunderface would tell me- imagine a string tied around your hips pulling you forward. Push forward through those hips! . 📸 @optimistgrind
