- A great book should leave you with many experiences, and slightly exhausted at the end. You live several lives while reading.” -William Styron . . Hello awesome bookworms 👋 . . ❗️Did you read today? . . I try as much as I can to read. Even if it’s just a page. That’s an accomplishment itself. - Book #45 for 2017: Maggie Nelson's "The Red Parts. * "(D)uring the trial, I sat in the courtroom every day with a legal pad and pen, jotting down all of the gory details, no different or better than anyone else. Details which I'm reassembling here--a live stream--for reasons that are not yet clear or justifiable to me, and may never be. But as I told my mother after her tumble in the kitchen, some things might be worth telling simply because they happened." (p. 31) * "The Red Parts" is the third Maggie Nelson book that I've read this year, and while it doesn't stand up to the (brilliant) "Jane: A Murder" or "The Argonauts," I am glad I read Nelson's account of the 2004 murder trial for her aunt, Jane, for Nelson's reasons listed above. "The Red Parts" was written in kind of a fever dream during the trial for the man who killed Jane 30 years prior, the death which inspired Nelson's earlier book. In some ways "The Red Parts" is a sequel to "Jane," but outside of the subject matter, it is hard to compare the two books. * Nelson is uniquely skilled in eliding the distinctions between memories, imagined events and the events themselves, bending and flexing time, which allows past, future, and present to exist in a single moment. I'm a sucker for her seamless blend of memoir, storytelling and historical documentation, and while this is not the first book of hers I'd recommend picking up, I might suggest it as a contender for the #3 spot. 😟💕🚗🏦📒⚖️🗞️ #maggienelson #theredparts #memoir #trial #bookstagram #lgbtqiaauthors #womenauthors #bookbingonw2017 #nonfiction #booksandcoffee #latergram #summerreading #mazamamugshots #thirdplacebooks #bookreview

- Loved this one! Didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but couldn't put it down. It even felt a bit too relevant in parts. . . Injured in an accident, Johnny Smith awakens from a 5 year coma with the ability to see people's futures by touching them. After shaking hands with politician Greg Stillson, he foresees the danger the world faces if Stillson becomes President. . . Any King fans that haven't read this one, I urge you to give it a go, it's a really great read! . . . #eatreadtravel #bookstagram #book #read #books #bookshelf #reading #stephenking #thedeadzone #constantreader #bookreview #igreads #instaread #scifi #fiction #bibliophile #bookhoarder #review #booksandcoffee #greatread #bookclub

- Monday&Madonna in a fur coat. Over the weekend I read "Madonna in a fur coat" by Sabahttin Ali and it was a joy. The story within the story is of a young man who goes to Berlin in the 30s, supposedly to work but he is more looking for the meaning of it all. The story really drew me in, reminded me of John Williams and also Stefan Zweig in the style of writing and topic to give an indication. So glad that @otherpress has made this available in english and since it was included in an a box from @theboxwalla I've seen it around the gram a fair bit and hopefully it will be read by more people (however, my copy was gift from @sophia_stories ; Thank you again!!). Have a great week everyone! #madonnainafurcoat #sabahattinali #alwaysreading #bookstagram #booksandcoffee #amaryllis #byredo
