- Trying something new and exciting out this month - a #naturebased #bookreview for some #outdoorentrepreneur friends of mine. 😎📚 Keep an eye out for it to go live on their blog + my Instagram tomorrow morning! . I've loved reading for as long as I can remember. I was one of those kids who, as much as I loved being outside for recess, often wanted to do nothing more than get lost in a book. I'd get in trouble for staying up late reading, bought books beyond my reading level out of sheer curiosity and read strange things like dream dictionaries one day, Lord of the Flies the next...Shel Silverstein, Nancy Drew, Goosebumps, Brave New World, and Harry Potter - I adored adventurous characters and their challenging travels. I so wish I had my collection some days but when college rolled around something changed for me. #RequiredReading smothered my flame. I moved over 20 times in 10 years and my collection of books dwindled down to zero on more than one occasion. . Over the past year or so (undergrad AND grad school now out of the way) I've been working on rekindling it. Here's to more time spent with my nose in a book AND being outside this spring and summer! 🤓📖🍃 . What about you? What's your recommendation for my reading list?

- Caraval by Stephanie Garber ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The most important thing is that you remember it’s only a game. Scarlet has spent many years writing to the elusive and fantastic Legend who runs the annual performance, Caraval, to no avail. Though she knows he never performs the same place twice, she hopes he’ll come back to the Conquered Isles once more. He doesn’t. But Scarlet does receive a personal invitation to his next game. Scarlet embarks on an adventure she wasn’t completely ready for when her sister tricks her into entering Legend’s twisted world, and subsequently gets herself kidnapped. Love – whether for a sibling or a significant other – is a powerful thing, and it drives Scarlet through her weeklong Caraval experience as she tries to distinguish reality from illusions. What I thought would start off as a simple love triangle with weak females characters, quickly made me hopeful that there was more than what met the eye. Luckily – like with many things in this warped world – nothing is ever as it seems. Thought some twists and turns were predictable, I found this fantasy thriller engaging and entertaining. The female characters seemed capable of taking care of themselves and more concerned with each other than their potential romantic partners, which is too often lacking in YA novels. That being said there is definitely some tantalizing sexual tension woven throughout the story to keep you going. Most of all, I want more. The final cliffhanger was just enough of a tease to leave me satisfied with the story, and wanting to play the next time around too. . . #book #books #bookish #bookstagram #instareads #instabook #read #bookrec #bookreview #booknerd #booklover #caraval #stephaniegarber #flatironbooks #ya #yalit #yafantasy #yathriller #fantasy #thriller #sundayvibes #sundaymorning #librarybook

- #IGBookReview . . . Jomblo, Oh Jomblo! Penulis : Tauwa Antakutsuka Penerbit : Syura Media Utama Tahun Terbit : 2012 Rate : 3/5 🌟 . . - My name is David (@optimistadrift) and I'm the author of a book called Divine Karma - The Creation (available on Amazon). In my book I talk about how we humans are blind to the most powerful transformational energy because of our engrained beliefs and hardened limitations. And so, what if we can begin to question those beliefs and realize that we are much greater than what we believe. Imagine now a life without boundaries and without emotional conflicts. You can have all the same experiences but you don't attach yourself and dwell in those experiences, you can let them go and continue with other great experiences. This knowledge doesn't require anything from you except to let go and begin to observe your life and question everything you're experiencing. Understand that all our beliefs are concepts (or ideas) that have nothing to support them and we built our emotions on these concepts because we learned that this is what our society expects from you, and this is why we suffer. When you have opened yourself up to this liberating knowledge You will have found God, in you. With humility and love. #namaste #loveyourself #divinekarma @optimistadrift #zen #ego #divineself #yoga #karma #mindful #purposeful #amazon #amazonbooks #bookstagram #instagood #letgo #bookreview

- Hace poquito @infinitelives00 me nominó al tag #rainbowbooks y me ha costado vida y media hacerlo porque no me gustaban los colores de los libros que tenía. Al final ha salido esto🤔. - This month, #TheGinBookClub reviewed #Maresi by #MariaTurtschaninoff (video review here: http://ow.ly/MUkP30aQ79Q) and #WarnerEdwards gin. The gin was potent, but we still didn't enjoy Maresi. We found it simplistic and one-dimensional, and question whether the clunky style is the result of poor writing or poor translation, but either way, it only managed to wring 3* from us. Frankly, we thought we were being quite generous. Personally, I found the tenor of the feminist agenda to be unsettling. The Gin Book Club reviewed #ThePower by @naomi_alderman back in January, and found her portrayal of the dynamic between the sexes to be compelling and balanced. On the day we recorded this review of Maresi, the three of us had just been to watch Alderman discussing The Power with Joanne Harris at Oxford Literary Festival, so feminism was on our minds. Despite being billed as feminist YA, I think Maresi suffered for comparison. Where Alderman's depiction of women (no morally better than men, simply weaker physically) was convincing, Turtschaninoff's (men are evil and women are all goddesses in waiting) felt simplistic and misleading. I found it unconvincing that out of twenty-odd men depicted as "the bad guys" in Maresi, from several different backgrounds, only the one who was homosexual even expressed remorse about the attempted rape of eight and twelve-year-old girls. None of them tried to stop it. This made me angry for all the wrong reasons. I'm lucky enough to be married to a man who is a staunch feminist. There are plenty of them out there, and the demonisation of their entire sex in this book is something I can't support. Black-and-white depictions of complex issues such as this do us no favours. #bookblogger #bookstagram #bookreview #feministwriting #bookreviewer #bookblog

- Has anyone watched A Series of Unfortunate Events on #netflix? I've started watching a few episodes and just couldn't get interested. Maybe I'll try again. . . I started reading the Lemony Snicket books when I was in high school, but I never finished it. As you can see, I don't have the series complete.
