- This week has already been SO busy, and it's only Tuesday. After a long day of teaching and meetings, wine and TV sounded WAY more appealing than working out, but I pushed through and made it to barre class. I felt energized just five minutes in, and refreshed and stronger after class. Pro tip: if you're on the fence about skipping your workout, just show up. You'll never leave class regretting your decision! For my gym-goers: show up and tell yourself you can leave after 15 min. If you're still not feeling it at that point, definitely listen to your body, but most of the time you'll end up sticking it out. This logic has actually led me through some of my stronger workouts! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ’ช #KeepOnTuckin

Boy- does your girl know about a plateau!!! ๐Ÿ™ˆActually, my specialty is more pushing myself off a cliff (progress-wise)๐Ÿ™„- so here are some of the things that REALLY worked for me to get me out of the hole I dug myself into- and back in the game.โ˜บ๏ธ . 1. Run with people- I DID not want to run with people. In fact, I didnโ€™t even want people to see me running (ask @tunderface). That was dumb. Running is EASIER with people. Doing workouts with the girls makes them more fun & helps me to hold paces that were LITERALLY in my dreams last year. Find people to run with. It may be scary at first, but youโ€™re not going to get faster by doing the same thing youโ€™re already doing. . 2. Get off your treadmill for speed workouts- Treadmills are great. Treadmills are NOT where you should be doing your speed & tempos. Itโ€™s super important to learn how to pace on dry land & build that strength and mental toughness. Holding on for dear life on the treadmill is not a skill that directly translates to a race. In a race, when you fall off the pace & start fatiguing- you donโ€™t have a machine as a backup to hold that pace for you. Iโ€™ve seen a lot of improvement since Iโ€™ve stopped doing my hard workouts on the treadmill. . 3. Add speed- If youโ€™re trying to figure out how to get faster, but not currently doing a speed workout each week- THIS IS THE BEST WAY TO GET FASTER!!! Speed workouts give you the most bang for your back. . 4. Focus on your form- Your form can propel you forward or hold you back- but most people just think that whatever form they have is what they are stuck with. NOT TRUE. Good form makes hard running feel more relaxed and is more efficient. Being more efficient = going faster using less energy. A TOTAL win! . 5. Change up your workouts- if you do the exact same type of workouts every week, try changing it up- do really short intervals, long intervals, but don't be so married to any one workout that you're neglecting taxing your system to the max. . . My transformation isn't all about weight loss, I wasn't overweight but I also wasn't confident in my body and I wasn't happy with who I was overall. I was always moody, never had energy and just didn't feel good in my own body. Fast forward to the picture on the right, this is me more confident in my body and so much happier overall! I love to just throw random fruits together and see what happens- especially after a long day of classes to prep for a long night of homework. Yay college. - Note to self: when it comes to weights, start off small, build up slow. First time trying deadlifts and I added more than I could handle!! So I looked it up -- at the intermediate level, most women should be able to lift 85-100% of their body weight. (Men - 110-120%). Good benchmarks to keep in mind ๐Ÿ˜‰ --- Also, never thought I'd find so much joy in trying out new gym equipment. But I did. So I looked it up -- at the intermediate level, most women should be able to lift 85-100% of their body weight. (Men - 110-120%). - So I haven't started this BBG week yet as I've been sick since Saturday and still recovering. Feeling confident that I will be well enough to finally get a workout in tomorrow! As I was scrolling for my evening motivation I came across this quote and it stopped me in the middle of my motivation seeking frenzy. I will be honest with you, my journey to self-love and self-acceptance has been messy. Out of all the mean things I can think of that people have said to me, my words were the meanest and nastiest of them all. Just like living a happy and fit lifestyle is a process, so is the journey to loving yourself. It's a long road and maybe a never ending one because it's easy to find something, no matter how minor it is, to pick apart about yourself or compare to others. I know I go from feeling confident in my own skin at one moment to being uncomfortable and wanting to hide away in bed and refuse to adult for the day. I've come a long way from where my self talk was, I will say that, but I do have days where it's hard to look at myself in the mirror and just be okay for the day. But I keep showing up for my workouts, and I keep pushing, and I keep striving to be better than I was yesterday. To be honest about my journey and keep positive no matter where I am at. 3. To have fun pretending I'm "insta-famous" and enjoy the fitness community. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ So here comes the honesty part. The last four months I have been dealing with a wrist injury from work and a diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS...maybe another post on that to come. We'll see.) But obviously, working out has not been my priority. If you know #bbg then you know how much you use your wrist for burpees, push-ups, triceps bends etc. I've needed time to heal and process this new PCOS diagnosis which will affect my prospects of starting a family, means I had to start BC again ๐Ÿ˜ญ and opens me up to more health risks. Unfortunately, it means I had to stop BBG right when I saw the most progress. So I have lost some of that progress. But I am feeling like I'm at a point where I'm ready to start over. Start fresh. It won't be a perfect journey. But it's my journey. And I'm learning the whole way through. Today was #pretrainingweek1 #legday I only did 3/4 of it cuz I want to be able to walk tomorrow. ๐Ÿ˜‚ but had a good stretch and am all smiles. Ready to try to post every other day and keep my accountability, honesty, and most of all #joyinthejourney๐Ÿ˜Š
