- Pulled down some lightfast tests today! The results were about what I expected. For anyone wondering, a lightfast test is basically exposing paints to sunlight for a set period of time to see how well the pigments hold their color. I leave mine up for three months. If you are doing illustration and immediately making a digital copy of your work and then putting it in a notebook where it won't be in sunlight on a regular basis, lightfastness really doesn't matter. If you're putting your stuff on a wall though, where it's going to be exposed to daylight from time to time, you might consider taking lightfastness into consideration when investing in new art supplies! I was really impressed by the Holbein acryla gouache ($16 for 5 20ml tubes). This primary set has been fantastic to work with, and the colors look exactly the same today as they did when I put them up in the intense summer sunlight three months ago. The primary magenta blew me away. In my experience, reds, pinks, and purples tend to be the first to fade (as you'll see in the other sets). This one looks perfect! 🌟 The Winsor & Newton designers gouache ($24 for 6 14ml tubes) had significant fade on the Primary Red, but it has a permanence rating of B so that was to be expected. The other colors in the set did not fade at all. 🌟 The MyArtscape gouache ($15 for 12 12ml tubes) held up better than I expected given how inexpensive the set is. There was significant fading on a few of the colors, but the blues and earth tones look untouched. This set does not include the pigment used in the paint, or lightfast/permanence ratings, which I think is typical of less expensive sets. I'd say it's still a nice set for anyone just wanting to learn more about gouache, or for the young artist you know. 👍 #gouache #gouacheartist #lightfast #lightfasttest #myartscape #winsorandnewton #holbeinacrylagouache #holbein #winsorandnewtondesignersgouache #artsupplies #artsupplycomparison #artnerd

- #8/19/17 This is the first product of my #artventures and a huge thanks to @kwistyart for joining me! We scrambled to pull together #artsupplies and a nice little #picnic, and to get to a spot up #drycanyon while we still had daylight. But it turned into a spectacular evening; as we spent the evening painting into the night, enjoying our food and delightful #jazz music, and endless conversation. Plus we had an awesome view of the valley! Wish I had gotten a picture of our quaint little set up, and of the view as well. But you #liveandlearn right? I'm really looking forward to the next #artventure #art #artist #utahartist #painting #acrylic #acrylicpaints #liquitex #cooperallredart #lindonutah #utah
