- After spending the week with a wicked cold, and thus failing all the readathons, I’m finally feeling well enough to read again!! Picking up on books I began almost two weeks ago, pre-cold. • While I’m enjoying the writing & watching the characters evolve, there’s something missing. • • • #diversebooks #ownvoices #fantasybooks #yabooks #yafantasy #youngadultbooks #beautifulcover #booksofinsta #igbooks #bookdragon #bookworm #currentreads #currentlyreading #amreading #reading #readaholic #igreads #instaread #bibliophile #bibliophilelife #bookobsessed #bookaddict #booknerd #bookphoto #bookporn #bookish #bookishlife #bookishlove

- This week Ursula Le Guin celebrated her 88th birthday! I’ll confess. I read the Earthsea Quartet because of a quote on the cover of the new edition. The quote read: “J.K. Rowling can type, but Le Guin can write.” 📚 An unfair quote, and unnecessarily provocative, but it appealed to me because I read the first Harry Potter book and failed to get caught up (though I have seen every movie.) 📚 As I started reading Earthsea, I was struck by the beauty of the writing. And it wasn’t just about the words, but in what was floating between the lines. A certain wisdom, certain ideas that turn over and over in your mind as you read. That’s what I read for. And that’s what I found in Earthsea. 📚 The first three books are coming-of-age novels of 3 different people: the troubled wizard Ged, the lonely priestess Arha, the promising prince Arren. And in each book you come across the main characters from different perspectives, which feels quite exciting, as if you know the characters better than they know themselves. 📚 What I love most is how ‘place’ is used in the book. It gives people characteristics, and culture. This is a novel routed in place, a very specific, detailed place with many landscapes. 📚 Le Guin’s books touch on philosophical questions, and truths, but these are embedded in the narrative. Characters are constantly plagued by their inefficacies and weaknesses, but never in a romantic, indulgent way. Life is hard for these characters, and it is always hard, even when evil is vanquished. There are no happily ever afters, not really. The wizard Ged, having destroyed evil, is not triumphant, but spent. 📚 If you need another reason to read these books, let it be the DRAGONS.

- It gets really frustrating when I can’t get myself to finish a book in time 😔 It’s not like I give myself ridiculous deadlines to fulfill, but it does upset me when I choose to distract myself with work even after working hours and Netflix as opposed to productively using this time to read. Don’t get me wrong, I love reading, and I’m not trying to force myself to read a book that I don’t find interesting. Maybe I’m going through a seasonal slump, or maybe I’m not mentally or emotionally healthy to enjoy reading again. This book, which is only 228 pages, took me over three weeks to finish. It’s frustrating, but last night I pushed myself to finish it. It was tough the first 5 minutes, but then I found myself engrossed into the story, and I was finally able to finish the book. I guess what I’m trying to say is, we all go though tough times when we’re distracted or too exhausted to enjoy what we love, and that doesn’t mean that we’ve fallen out of love with the things we enjoy doing ❤️ 📓 📚 ⏳ 📜 🖋 📝 📖 #read #bookworm #booknerd #ilikereading #bookreview #book #bookadventure #bookphoto #bookaholic #bookstagram #review #instabook #amreading #bookish #bookaddict #bibliophile #bookpost #bookstagrammer #bookblogger #bookcover #booklover #reading #booksbooksbooks #booksofinstagram #bookrecommendation #goodreads

- This is what I've been reading over the weekend 😊 I borrowed them from my boyfriend and they're full of post-it note annotations from his best friend from a few years back and they made the whole experience even better 😄 Although the ending mostly confused me I still love these books and now I'm excited to see the film hopefully soon. Out of all the characters I'd definitely be Knives XD #amreading #books #comicbooks #graphicnovel #scottpilgrim #bookstagram
